Go abroad (St Andrews) or stay in US (Emory) for all of undergrad?

Hi, I need some advice... I was accepted into both St Andrews in Scotland and Emory in Atlanta. I cannot decide which to attend in the fall. Emory has the exact subjects I want to study - Environmental Studies and Creative Writing - while I'd have to choose between Biology or English at St Andrews.. I couldn't take both. However, St A's would be an unmatched international experience and allow me to travel easily to many European countries and experience different cultures. It also has a lovely location and community environment. Anyone have any insight about either (or both!) of these schools?

If Environmental Studies and Creative Writing is what you want to do why are you even considering something else?

Does Emory have a strong “year abroad” option? If not, I’d take St. Andrews and Biology. You don’t need a degree in CR to write, you can pick that up in workshops, the school of hard knocks, and solo if you have the drive and persistence. Or go for an MFA a few years down the road. No offense…and I’ve known some exceptions…but one the major problems with 18-year-old writers is that they haven’t lived enough to have something worth saying. As I said, I’ve known exceptions…but you’ll have a much deeper well of material to draw upon after you’ve lived a few years.

Do you prefer cold dreary weather or hot muggy weather?

just because you’re at emory doesn’t mean you can’t spend a semester or a year abroad. from what all of my upperclassmen friends have said, studying abroad, even for two or three months, is an unbeatable experience. you can still get some traveling done, either during a break or at the beginning or the end of your stay.
