St Andrews (Scotland) vs Emory

Hi, I need some advice... I was accepted into both St Andrews in Scotland and Emory in Atlanta. I cannot decide which to attend in the fall. Emory has the exact subjects I want to study - Environmental Studies and Creative Writing - while I'd have to choose between Biology or English at St Andrews.. I couldn't take both. However, St A's would be an unmatched international experience and allow me to travel easily to many European countries and experience different cultures. It also has a lovely location and community environment. Anyone have any insight about either (or both!) of these schools?

I would choose Emory because it almost definitely is more highly respected stateside and you could always study abroad at Emory, maybe even visit Scotland. All top schools like Emory are sure to have great study abroad programs. Also, it has the EXACT subjects you want to study and that’s always a plus lol.

I’d choose Emory over St Andrews. Besides, Scotland can be a dreadful place in the winter (when the sun sets at 3 p.m.).

Emory has some wonderful study abroad options.

My son spent five weeks the summer after his first year at Emory travelling to Spain, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands and Germany with a small group of students and his favorite professor–for 8 credits.

He also spent a semester in Israel (where he also travelled to Jordan, Egypt,Cypress, Greece and Turkey), and took a spring break trip to Bulgaria.

If you’re British, go for Emory. If you’re American, go for St Andrews.

BTW, it’s not true that you’d have easy access to many parts of Europe if you’ll go to St Andrews. St Andrews is located in the north eastern part of Scotland and is a pretty isolated place. It would take you 6 hrs, more or less, to go to London from Edinburgh by train, and another 2 hours from Edinburgh to St Andrews. If you’re not an American passport holder, you’d need to get a visa to travel to mainland Europe, such as France, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc. And, contrary to the belief of many Americans, St Andrews isn’t really a top 6 UK uni. The top 6 UK unis are: Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, LSE, Warwick and UCL. St Andrews and Durham may fall right below these 6 unis.
