Go Catholics! Beat Harvard and Stanford Tomorrow

Tomorrow Georgetown football hosts Harvard and Notre Dame football hosts Stanford.

As a papist and product of parochial schools myself, I hope both teams win on the field but I think it is interesting to note how both universities are winning off the field as well.

The most interesting story in American higher education of the last six to eight years has been the rise of Catholic higher education to the pinnacle of excellence with Georgetown SFS ranked 1st in the world over Harvard, Columbia and all comers in Foreign Policy magazine's biennial rankings of graduate international affairs schools for the past six years and Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business being ranked 1st in the nation over Wharton, MIT and all comers In Business Week's rankings of undergraduate business schools for the past five years. As late as 1966, there were only four Catholic colleges that had so much as a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and to see these rankings today in Foreign Policy and Business Week is truly remarkable and noteworthy.

So, is it the players on the field that win or the man upstairs? What does a college being Catholic have to do with winning a football game? I am Catholic btw and could give a rats boohiney if a Catholic team wins or not.

Ga2012MOM-you and probably 1 billion non-Catholics in China probably don’t care either but I am interested in the outcome of both games.
