Go for the Major or Go for the School?

So I am lucky enough to be admitted into both University of Washington and University of Connecticut (Yes very different,) but I am having a very tough decision in deciding which school to go to. Both are out of state for me, as I live in California. I’m hoping to go into physical therapy, so I will have to go to Grad school. The real kicker though is that I really love University of Washington, just the vibes, and the area so much, but they don’t truly offer a major ( admitted as Pre-health sciences) built towards PT, closest would be a biology major. While at UConn the area is alright (middle of nowhere) and its not as interesting a campus, but they have the #1 kinesiology department in the country (accepted as Pre-kinesiology, as you must apply for the major at end of sophomore year). Which is one of the best majors to have when applying to grad schools for PT. So I guess the real question is, is it better to go to the college you enjoy more or go to a school with your major?

Personally, I would look at the PT Grad schools you are interested in and check the Admited students stats. Just because a major is the number one accepted major nationally, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the top major at each Grad school. And by number 1 major accepted, are you looking at that in terms of total number of admits or percentage Admited with that major versus other majors? Just something to think about. I hope you are happy with your decision either way.

As for Myself, as long as the school could give me the background I needed to get into my grad program, I’d go where I loved the school because I’d likely be happier all the way around. Four years is a long time to spend in an environment you’re not fond of. Just my opinion.
