I am currently enrolled in MAT 21 (A) series but I heard it’s more difficult (even includes writing programs…?) than the MAT 17 series. As a Biochem major it seems that 17 is the better option (easier and teaches applications). But I am not sure if I really want to keep my major, which drew me to MAT 21.

Is it possible to take MAT 21A and then go to MAT 17B, or go from MAT 17A to MAT 21B (I’m looking into Econ or Comp Sci. So I’m thinking of taking MAT 17A and if I do decide that I don’t want to be a CBS major, then I take MAT21B to fulfill econ or compsci.)

If you’re not sure if you’ll stick with bio and are seriously considering a major that requires the 21 series, you might want to stay in 21A. The 21 series can apply toward any major with a calculus requirement while the 16 and 17 series can’t.

At least for 21A and 21B, no. I haven’t heard anything about writing programs for 21C, but I haven’t taken that yet so I don’t know from experience. I have no idea on 21D.
