So my goal is to get into a good UC School. I’m currently at an 1870 which is not high enough for most of the UC’s. My goal is to take the SAT in October and score 2000 or higher. My current scores are
Math:690
Critical Reading:560
Writing:620 (8 essay)
This is the Max I can see myself getting realistically on each section. If I get a little below those that still can get me 2000.
Math:730
Critical Reading:640
Writing:690
That would give me 2060
I feel like my Writing is still capable of improving even more. I scored a 43 on the Writing for the PSAT (Awful I know) and I read Erika Meltzer’s SAT Grammar book through once 2 weeks before I took the SAT in March and I went up a ton. If I can improve my essay writing skills that can help me even further. When I took the SAT I feel like I was still in the middle of improving and I think this score can still be improved fairly easily. I didn’t know any grammar rules before reading that book and it really helped me.
Math:690 is still a good score (I scored 67 on the PSAT math) but I feel like I can do better because math is my best subject by far. I think my biggest obstacle is I’m not very good at Geometry and 3 of the 5 problems I missed were Geometry related according to my score report. So I would like to try to improve that and I feel like that can get me to about 730ish.
Critical Reading:This is where I struggle most. I scored 53 on the PSAT and 560 on this. Believe it or not the Sentence Completions really are not my problem on this section. I have room to improve on them for sure, but I am horrible at reading passages. For starters its really hard for me to really read something that I find to be incredibly boring and not just space out, but I’m also really freaking slow at passage based question tests. (Not just on the SAT but any type of read and answer questions from a passage) So I end up having to move at a pace faster than I am comfortable going on this section and I make a bunch of sloppy mistakes as a result. I missed 19 on the CR in March. 5 of them were Sentence Completions and 14 of them were Passage Based Reading Questions. I already kind of have a plan to improve my sentence completions (I’m going to get Direct Hits) but for passage based questions I am not really sure what to do at all. I feel like I can’t seem to improve on those at all. So this is what I really need some suggestions for.
Summary:I would like to get some advice on resources to improve a math score from the high 600’s into the 700’s, how to improve a critical reading score period and how to get 700 or close to 700 on the writing. Thank you guys.
