alrite. i have read countless responses about stats of people admitted to cornell. honestly i have read a LOT. (as most of you have). Now some people, when they state their GPA, say it is 3.6 uw - these people say THERE IS NOOO WAY YOU HAVE A CHANCE. - even if the person has high SATs or what not. and then on the accepted threads, some people have like 3.4 gpa's.

basically what im asking is, if you have a 3.6 uw gpa (or generally a low gpa), where they arent weighted etc, and you have good SATs, essays, recomendations etc, can you still realistically feel like you may get a nice thick envelope in the mail one day?

i dont know if some people are being realistic when they say you have NO chance, i hear that rank is really important compared against your gpa.

basically. i am in 4 adv classes out of my 6 classes, and i have a 3.6 gpa that is not weighted and im tired of hearing mixed responses from people, when i havent even listed a "what are my chance thread"- some are like YEAH! go for it! and some are like SCREW IT! GIVE UP YOU SUCKKKKK (maybe not like that exactly)

i just want to know, how much would a 3.6 uw gpa affect my chances.

good luck with all the housing etc to everyone and please help me out! :-)

No one here can assess what a 3.6 at your high school is and that is why adcoms look at class rank and the difficulty of your courseload. If you took tough courses and have a high class rank, then you should be fine

We're not admissions, no one is going to be able to tell your if "you're in" or not. The only way to know is to put your application in and hope for the best...just apply to a lot of schools on varying levels of selectivity (be sure to have a safety, just in case). There are plenty of other good schools out there...you shouldn't be totally crushed if for some reason they say no, but you'll never find out if you would have gotten in if you don't apply.

Just go for it! When I was in highschool I applied for nothing but state schools just because I did not think I had a chance at a school like Cornell. (HS GPS 3.4). My biggest regret was that I was accepted into every school I applied to. I could have done better. Two years later I applied as a transfer student and was accepted to Cornell yet rejected from Stanford. It is nice to get at least one rejection letter. Now I know my limits, and I know what I can do to push them.

So basically, what you're nudging us towards saying is that you have a a chance, lol.

lol well of course i was hoping to hear that- i am human, however the majority of threads i have read are negative towards low gpa's and i just wanted to know how much they count in the admissions process and if that "low" gpa is, set in stone, a really bad thing.

I'll pm u about it a bit more, but I think you still have a perfectly fine chance. Now you just need to be strong everywhere else, but it's not like that is a suprise.
