Going from 1400 to 1800 in 20 days on SAT I?

Is it possible? I have taken the offical PSAT in 10th and 11th grade, and got a 1400 on the SAT I in May 2009. I did not prep for the test though.

I got a 22 composite on the ACT, which was my first time taking the ACT ever; I crammed Princeton Review for three days (As you can tell, I am a HUGE procrastinator). Never took a single practice test.

Now... How realistic is increasing my score from 1400 to 1800+? Starting today to the January 2010 SAT I test. I have Princeton Review, "Cracking the SAT I 2010" or something like that.

I am taking AP Calc and AP Lit and Comp. I am getting C's in those classes (just a referance as to where my levels in writing and math are). I think Calc and Lit are useless in regards to the SAT.

FEEDBACK PLEASE?
No smart-ass comments please.

All you can really do at this point is practice. Pick up some vocab words and start reviewing.

I suggest you take the Barron’s book for SAT (big blue book) and just take practice tests, gauge where your weaknesses are and then practice that.

The Barron’s SAT book are a pretty good predictor, range wise, of the score you’d get.

Good luck!

I’m also studying for the sat, will take it in Jan. i think if you got 1400 you probably didn’t study much. if you want to improve you should make a resolution. in the next 3 wks study the math problems and memorizing vocabs. get a “direct hits” asap and memorize those words. to study for math, just do a couple sample tests and go over them, esp. those problems you made mistake on. the reward will show quickly.

and get college board’s official study guide!

I think it’s very possible if you study hard. I went up around 350 points from the very first time I took a practice test and the last time I took an official test.

Get the Blue Book and practice. Because you don’t have much time to improve, and aren’t looking to ace the test, I suggest you don’t guess.
To get a 600 in reading, you only need to get 45-48 right. For math, it’s 35-38. Don’t guess. Answer only the ones you know. Same thing for writing, except write a halfway decent essay. (There are many posts here on improving the essay).
Practice to become familiar with the tests, until you consistently answer 2/3 of the questions correctly, while becoming comfortable omitting the ones you don’t get. Read the questions carefully to avoid careless mistakes.

If you can eliminate two of the choices, it might be worthwhile to guess. otherwise, esp. for those long passages in CR if it’s too hard for you, and math problems you have no clue, skip them.

As for me, I never guess if I can’t eliminate at least 3 choices.
My score went up from 1600 on the very first practice test to 1900 on november test, although English is not even 2nd langauage for me, it is third, lol.(After my native language and Russian)
So yes, you can drastically improve yuor score by practicing.

Thanks everyone! I sincerely thank everyone for the advice. However, I need to motivate myself… I got essays due tomorrow for the commonapp and I haven’t even finished. I’m really confident I will finish, but I do not know if It will be good.

But what is the blue book? Is it the offical study guide, or is it from barons?

Blue book is the official study guide by CB.

barrons is nice too. I liked it.

Thanks. I honestly hate these “placement” tests… But, I better try hard, because this is the last one.

haha i shuda put what u put at the end of ur 1st post. lol ppl kept giving me smart ass comments before too. despite that, i went from a 1580 to an 1850 superscore. i took my first test in november of my junior year and continued taking several through december of my senior year. i took almost every test except the may cuz i missed the deadline.

also, i didnt study much for any of them. well i studied for like a week before my last test and my scores all went down except in writing, it went up 50 points. i wasnt motivated at allll to study for sat’s cuz i thot it didnt matter too much but it does! believe me lol dont make the same mistake i did. u’ll be glad when u get in to ur top choices if u studied hard.

if i try, i can make my scores go higher but most of the time i didnt care…so basically put in the effort! and ur score will be higher : ]

i went from a 1900 to a 2300 in 3 days

it can be done

geez howd u do thaat?

In three days? Hmm… Sounds like that was your lucky day. :]
