true...
but im a decent guy and i can throw one hell of a party...just wishful thinking i guess

well, there are exceptions, of course

your right...spanks you gonna go for a sorority?

yeah, I am, not sure exactly which one yet

I'm personally a fan of Sigma Phi; the location, house (indoor squash court!), brothers, parties, and size really click with me.

There is no best frat. You'll find out the personalities as you meet brothers in them. Over your first semester. There is no best sorority, though the best from a guys perspective are KKG and DG, as they have the hottest girls by reputation.

You don't want a "prestigious" frat if you don't fit in there, because you'll be stuck hanging out and living with guys you don't get along with for 3 and a half years.

Downsides are distractions from living in a sick house that can throw great parties, and the general frat culture doesn't go along with some people's values, lifestyle, etc. For the outgoing type, though, the fraternity system seems awesome. Not that it excludes those that aren't outgoing, i'm just saying as an outgoing person, I and other outgoing friends of mine love it. There are some kids who aren't as into the party scene who currently aren't as interested, but are rushing just for fun and "probably won't pledge." The favorite recruitment line of brothers is "I NEVER thought I'd join a frat when I came to cornell," be they current students or alumni from the 70s who I met at formals/cocktails. I believe them...I never thought I'd be a beer guzzling, womanizing, collar popping jerk either...and as it turns out that's not what a frat guy is...there are all kinds of people in the greek system, so next year, come with an open mind...one of the first and coolest people you will meet will be your OL, who most likely will be a frat bro, sorority sister.

Kappa Kappa Gamma's nice. By nice I mean hot, that is lots of blonds. If you're a hot blond hotelie you'll fit in nice. Just about all frats and sororities have formals, usually one a semester.

With regard to whats the best, first of all I'm biased because I think mine is the best (duh). But I'm a firm beleiver that every person has a fit in one of the frats (well theres like 50, they better). That said each frat has a different style, or type of people. Some are more similiar to some then others. It's like highschool. You've got jocks, stoners, drinkers, druggies, party animals, greasers (no just kidding) ethnic. Some seem to attract more intellegent people. Some attract, well, I guess what I would call dorks, which is rough coming from a engineer. Some throw more parties, some throw better parties. They also vary in size, some have a dozen or less, some like mine have over 50. Also some tend to mix with other sororoties more then other.

Edit
I'd like to add that while KKG and DG have been the hottest in the past, it seems to me that Alpha Phi and Kappa Alpha Theta (KAT or Theta) have been usupring those roles.

I hate people who pronounce phi "fee" and chi "chee" for the rechord. its FIY and KHAI.....

Oh god, when we get drunk it gets so confusing...the Phi and the Pi and the Chi...

I remember my 2nd night i was headed down to "Psi U" which was, according to the brother on the phone with my friends already there, "next to sig phi." I heard "Sig Pi," which is actually neaby, and kept getting confused as to why I was looking at Theta drug instead of Psi U. madness...I was completely sober for the record.

Haha, yeah, we were supposed to go to Sig Nu and ended up at Delta Chi (we went down Thurston not University), which wasn't having a party...so we went to some random fraternity and talked the brothers into opening it up and playing beer pong with us...it wasn't so bad.

We had one of those nights during o week...ended up at llenroc...for anybody who hasn't noriced: llenrocornell get it?

wow...I feel really dumb.

are you serious spanks?

I...don't...want...to talk about it.

hahahaha awesome...

haha, I can't make fun of anyone for like 24 hours. I was always like, "*** is a llenroc?"

they bleeped w t f

if about 1/3 of cornellians join frats during freshman year, don't the freshman dorms open up a lot more?

No, you can only rush/pledge second semester, and your contract with Cornell is binding for 1 year, so you still live in the dorms. Then next year most people choose to live in the frat house.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! i little jokeing experience of mine i thought i would share...u know frats and sors are called by greek name right? i didn't know that till sparty told me...so when guys on CC and other places would speak of Kappa Beta Alpha...i would think that these wre science clubs and start of on my science projects...i now understood why everyone gave my tweirdlooks when that happened!!!

haha, poor Arjun, we have to get you unconfused before you get to Cornell.
