Going Greek

hahaha arjun is going to turn out to be the big man on campus once he gets over the culture shock...i can feel it!

can people not in frat/sor go to their parties? and how many roommates do you have if you live in one of those huge mansions? thanks!

What types of girls join sororities?

Especially first semester, the parties are very open. Second semester when there is pledging, there are less open social events and more mixers. You have to be in a frat/sor to attend mixers.

The girls that join sororities vary largely. Just like fraternity, there are different sororities for different people. Drug users non drug users, specific types of drugs, alcohol no alcohol, eating disorder no eating disorder (my favorite dimension of comparison lol). Certain upbringings, social class, ethnicity, etc. Hard partiers, volunteer and service oriented, etc. etc. etc. You tell me what type of girl you are and I can tell you which sorority you'll fit in with. There is a sorority for everyone, unless you can't stand living with girls.

With regards to roommates, if your in a fraternity it varies widly. Generally upperclassmen have a smaller chance of having a roomie. It also depends on your posistion, if you hold any posistions, etc. I had a roommate 1st semester sophmore year, and ever since then I've had a single. Sororities generally are larger, but have MUCH more members, so a greater chance of a roommate. I know some girls who live in triples, and some in singles.

what if u dont necesarilly feel like u can get categorized--like ur saying? like im a cool guy, like to joke around, enjoy partying, but still wanna succeed in college, i'm indian but hang out with everyone, i'm a firefighter, teach taekwondo, and i do some "macho" things but also enjoy spending time with non-smashed girls, dont like flirting with random people, and dont mind some chick flicks (a walk to remember is actually a really sad movie w/ a coupla good songs) and disney movies (not the crappy new ones--the classics, like aladdin, beauty and the beast, the lion king)... like from wut ur saying, u seem to have to have some distinguishing characteristic with the frat/sorority u pledge with.

Just go around to the houses, meet the brothers. Each house has a personality. You can find one you fit in. I did, and it was the LAST thing I ever expected myself to do.

No. For example, my fraternity: I consider us cool, we party, we have one of the top 5 house GPAs (3.438). We have one Indian and one Pakistani brother (I'm very good friends with both). One of the best guys on the Tae Kwon Do team is a sophmore living down the hall from me. And um, most houses only have a handful of parties a year, do you think we isolate ourselves from all the sober girls in between? Oh, and my frat bro who lives across the hall from me listens/watches the Lion King regularly, although I do rip him for it :) I didn't mean every person fits into a frat as in they have one characterisitc about them. It's more like a rubric. If you do this, this, this and this you'll fit in with this fraternity. Make more sense? Also, joining a fraternity doesn't exclude you from hanging out with other people or friends you've made else where.

yah i dont care about getting ripped about the disney movies--aladdin=great hookup movie--right when "whole new world" comes on

Also try the DVD intro screen to Lord of the Rings haha.

yo ARJUN- im 50% Indian- is India still as conservative as it was in my dads day?

do high school kids drink/party these days?

my dad said back in his day, everyone just studied nonstop

I already have a house rented for next year...is it stupid to rush for a sorority if I know I'm not living there next year? Are there many sisters that don't live in their houses?

why do people join sororities/frats if not for the nice and i guess cheaper living place and more social activities? thanks

stonecold, yeah...India's way cooler than ur dasy days...i can vouch for that...but academic's is Numero Uno for any student here...its cool actually

The #1 reason people join is for the people, i'll elaborate more later today, I just got back (7:35am) from an all night bender in the city, sleep now
