Going to college cross-country

Awwww....that is such a cute story mominva, and for BOYS to do it is quite amazing. Love it!!!

Yeah, I was shocked. My son admitted it wasn't his idea but he thought it was a good one!

mominva, amazing! I work in a bookstore, and am amazed when boys come in to buy presents for their parents. My son is quite oblivious to remembering occasions like that.

After sending two kids through colleges on the opposite coast, I fully agree with all the suggestions above. One other idea is that if you are considering a Bed, Bath and Beyond shopping spree at one end or the other, you might just want to order the stuff online and have it shipped directly. As I recall, they charge shipping according to your purchase price so it's an especially good deal for inexpensive yet bulky things like trash cans and those "egg crate" mattress covers.

Target also will ship if you buy online. As will the Container Store and many other retailers. (I bought my daughter's winter coat through the Lands' End catalog and had it shipped to her. It was kind of fun - we spent time online "shopping" for it together even though we were 2,000 miles apart)

We shipped 11 boxes from Texas to Boston for about $200. We then flew up for moving day. We had Lands End ship their stuff directly to the school. The rest came from Target in Boston. For the first summer we learned a hard lesson about the pack and store places that advertise on campus. You can do a search on this site for several threads by myself and others about loosing everything. Never again. Store it at the school, rent a U-store place and keep the key, or sell it at the end of the year (or donate it to charity). You can even mail/ship it home cheaper. I use Fedex Ground for all of my shipping.

Oh yeah, winter:). Definitely had to buy rainboots, sheepskin boots, and a down coat online together once winter hit. Somehow one fleece and a nice black coat just didn't handle the conflicting demands of winter, the desire for warm legs, and the proclivity of 20 year old boys to pour beer on their friends....

I was able to snap a webcam still photo (an option on the webcam page) of S and his then GF that I still have. We were chatting on the phone when he said where he was, and I knew there was a webcam pointed at that spot. I told him and he was kind enough to wave.

Actually Bed Bath and Beyond has a great thing. You go to your local store near your home and place your order for what you want. Then they help you find the store nearest to the college, and that is where the order is packaged. You tell them the date, and it's all set when you get there. You pay when you pick the "stuff" up. We actually switched a couple of items when we got there (found a different mattress pad we liked better, didn't get an "egg crate" because the mattress was terrific and the pad was thick, picked out a different pillow)...and it was not a problem at all. This is good for the "bulky" items.

That would be a good thread, college webcams we know and love:)

Start collecting the Bed Bath Beyond coupons - they will accept expired coupons.
