Going to College - How do I chose a place to live

Hi guys.
This is my first time posting here.
I'm hoping to go to college in the Fall, but I haven't decided where yet.
I don't have a dorm requirement so I'm looking for off-campus housing.
My question is, what's the best way to decide where to live off-campus?
Finding some place nice and a good price will affect my decision making.

Thanks in advance.

Does your college have an off-campus housing office? If so, you should start there. The people in that office can give you some good house-hunting tips.

You could try craigslist and see how much it costs to live near your college.

I think she’s saying that she is going to choose her college for this fall based on the availability of cheap off-campus housing…is that right?

yes, that’s right. Affordability will sort of count in my decision. I just wondered if there was a way to sort of find this information. Craigslist is a good idea. There doesn’t seem to be much information about off-campus housing on most of the university sites I’ve checked.
Your advice is very much appreciated.

How are you going to college in the fall but have no idea where yet? Do many colleges still have openings around this time?

Sorry, I didn’t mean this fall. I’m a senior and trying to plan ahead and get some ideas.

Are you planning on living off campus no matter where you go to school? You are not thinking of living in the dorms?

Assuming you are going to visit the colleges you end up applying to, look at the bulletin boards in the student center to see if housing or requests for roomates are posted. Pick up the local paper for each town and look through their classified ads.

I’d say pick a college, then worry about picking a place to live.

I just notice that not all have a requirement to live in dorms. I think i’d rather not.
Thanks danceclass. I appreciate that advice.

So, this was kind of neat - [Collegeiglu - Find COOL Housing Around Campus](http://www.collegeiglu.com/) - for future reference.
