So I'm a high school senior and I'll be attending either Wellesley College or UMass Amherst's Honors College in the fall. I'm kind of a shy person but I want to become more social, and although I don't want to be a hard-core partier I would like to go to parties in college. This is probably going to sound stupid but the thing is, how does one actually find and get into college parties? Do you just show up and ask if you can come in or do your friends invite you, or...? As you can probably tell I never went to any parties in high school, so I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Depends on the nature of the party. Apartment parties you generally have to know someone or know someone that knows someone; if you walk into a random person’s apartment you’ll probably not like the result (though this has occurred on some occasions with success lol). My roommates freshman year had friends and acquaintances who were sophomores and upperclassman which allowed me to go to a fair amount of parties that way. Open frat parties are usually during rush week and very specific nights during the year. So during rush (at least at my school) anyone can pretty much walk into a frat and get free booze and have a good time. After rush you really have to be Greek to even find out about the majority of frat parties, let alone attend.

I’m sure it varies from campus to campus since every campus culture is different, but that’s generally how it works at my school. We also have bars with 19+ entry (21 to drink ofc), so people here don’t feel the need to throw actual parties quite as often as they might at other schools.
