has anyone here done this or know anyone who has? I'm curious as to how this works. My intended major is Computer Science. Is this just a too good to be true type of thing that Santa Fe uses to capitalize on UF-hopefuls, or is it actually a good path to take? My biggest worry is that it will cost too much to live off campus and go there as I am going to be going to school completely on bright futures(second best award, not sure of the name) and loans/grants.

Santa Fe is a GREAT school. I am a high school senior who has dual enrolled there for the past two years, I have absolutely LOVED it. Every professor I have had has been amazing. You will love it. Some things about SFC are actually better than UF. For example, the class sizes are much, much smaller – 300 vs. 30 students. You will love it there, I promise. Everyone is so nice and help full. If you want cheap/nice accommodation there is a place called the Santa Fe Crossing right across the street, you can literally walk to class. Rooms start around $380 per month for a four bedroom. The great thing about SFC is if you do all you prerequisites and have the minimum GPA YOU WILL GET INTO TO UF. SFC is the feeder school for UF.

thanks for the response. unfortunately you gave me more information than the santa fe website provides(this is a knock on them, not you!). the only problem is i can’t find majors or anything. does that matter at SFC if i’m transferring to UF? How long on average would i have to attend SFC before transferring?

Here’s the link for UF transfers from SF… looks like they’re currently updating the information on different majors but if you go here [Office of the University Registrar](http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/catalog/programs/majors/compscieng.html) there’s a link for common course pre-reqs for transfers for the computer science major.

I transferred to UF from Santa Fe and it was a great and easy experience. All of my credits transferred, no problem. You just need to earn 60 credits to be able to transfer to UF and you’ll need to have those pre-requisites completed by the time you transfer.

Santa Fe only list about 70 most popular majors that UF offers, so if you cannot find your major on the list just make sure you go to the correct UF department site to see the pre-requisites and required gpa you need to be admissible for the program. Also, the amount of time it takes for you to receive your A.A. depends on you. Generally takes about 2 years, but some students start in the summer and finish earlier, especially if they have no prep courses and no retakes. Wish you the best.

Going to Santa Fe College then transferring to UF is actually really common and a lot of students are successful in pursuing that route. In fact, Santa Fe sends the most students to UF compared to the other Florida junior/community colleges. I’ve been dual enrolling at Santa Fe for the past two years and will be graduating with my AA this spring and I have to say that I LOVE Santa Fe. The professors are knowledgeable, enjoy teaching students, and will do everything they can to help you. Santa Fe has excellent resources for students who need extra help in math or writing with their Math and Writing tutoring labs that are free to all students. To transfer to UF, you’ll have to complete all the pre-requisite courses for your major with a competitive gpa and earn an Associate of Arts degree. As long as you keep your grades up, you will have no problem transferring to UF or any other university in Florida. I must stress how important grades are when it comes to transfer admissions. Some students don’t get into UF because their gpa is not competitive enough for their major so please try your hardest to get the highest gap you can. Also, I would encourage you to get involved in all that Santa Fe has to offer. From student organizations to student government, there’s bound to be something you’ll like. Getting involved will look great on your UF transfer application and also introduce to other students attending Santa Fe. Class sizes are really small so you’ll get plenty of individualized attention (if you want/need it) and the Crossings (located right across the street) provides affordable housing and makes it easy to walk to class everyday. The bus system serving Santa Fe isn’t all that great so I could highly recommend bringing a car if you have one. Parking is free if you do bring a car but you might have trouble finding a parking spot during certain times of the day. Santa Fe has scholarships for incoming students to help subsidize the cost and you can become an Santa Fe Ambassador during your second year and get all of your tuition paid for and a $700 book stipend. Santa Fe also has an Honors Program that also looks good on transfer applications. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I’ve been going to this school for two years now so I know a thing or two. Good luck :)
