Going to schools where #men>>>>#women

I was wondering if women who are going to colleges (especially engineering/tech schools) where the men greatly outnumber the women (ie, men:women::3:1 or greater) can post some comments on the atmosphere of their schools? I'm going to a small engineering college this fall and I want to know if there's anything I should mentally prepare myself for or get used to.

I'm asking this mainly because after reading a lot of comments from males at schools similar to the one I'm attending like "this school is great, but we need more women", etc. I guess I just wondered if this is a common attitude among the men of these colleges, or if any of the girls at these colleges can give me a little insight into what I should expect my first year concerning the attitude of men there and the general atmosphere of colleges like this.

Thanks in advance :) I hope someone can help me out.

I go to a school just like that. I don't mind it a bit. Sure, the maturity level of guys is a bit lower than us girls, but it works fine. (my school is 80-85% guys)

The general atmosphere is rather guy-oriented at times (cars, girls, sports, etc), but you can always find people with similar interests. If engineering is the career you are really interested in you would have to deal with that in the current workplace as well.

You may get unwanted attention at times, but all the colleges I know of have strict sexual harrassment policies and the like. So, just keep your eye out for that sort of stuff.

It shouldn't be a real problem. I came from a high school that was "segregated" by sex--girls only hung out with other girls, and vice versa, and it was just one of the adjustments of college life.

thanks kwtortoise :) that's comforting to hear.

Oh my god. I wish I, a guy, could go to a mostly girls school (but too bad I'm a physics major). I talked to a guy from Westpoint and he said that guys were pretty much desperate for girls, and that even very ugly girls did pretty well for themselves. Happy hunting.
