Goldsmiths london us student chance

PREFACE:This was my post in the International forum, but I just noticed it's pretty dead. If any of you know anything about Goldsmiths or UK schools in general i'd appreciate the input.

...

Hey y'all,

Over the last few days, I've mythologized Goldsmiths and a London university experience and am absolutely set on going there. But, I'm under the impression my chances of getting in are...doubtful. I don't really know what English universities place emphasis on or even take into account.

Here are my stats:

2.8 GPA (a slight upward trend, but really i just slacked off)
2000 SAT (retaking in November, hopefully looking at a 2100+)
Weak - Average extracurriculars (docent at Museum of Tolerance, JV Cross Country + Soccer, PR firm summer internship)
Compelling Essay (but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, eh?)
Very strong recommendations, or at least I'm projecting...
White, Middle-Class, Straight, Mentally Stable, Fully-Limbed Male coming from 'elite' Los Angeles private school

I'd be applying to a field within the Humanities department, I'm not really sure which specific major yet. Also, I could produce an English affiliation, whether through proof of citizenship or some other status, as my dad is London born and raised and I have extended family living there. Not sure if this would help in any way, though.

Not to play the victim or anything, but please reply if you have any insight, because my college counselor hadn't even heard of this school and I don't have anyone else to talk to about UK universities.

thanks

Lool, I’m kind of in the same position as you.
First off college confidential is targeted to students who want to attend US schools I recommend posting this on **************.com, the UK version of college confidential.

Second–When you say compelling essay make sure you’re writing a ‘personal statement’ rather than the US ‘personal essay.’ The US really wants to get to know you and blah blah blah. UK is just talking about your extracurriculars in detail.

Third–AP TEST SCORES. You need a 3 or 4 in at at least 2 AP tests. I’d suggest AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition or AP US History or AP Euro blah blah blah. Or you can take SAT Subject tests.

Fourth–Your demographics are not that important in the UK, the fact that you’re coming from the US and paying extra tuition plays an important factor. Plus, your an international student.

I’m finishing up my application hopefully this weekend (:

**ignore all grammar and spelling mistakes. its 6:45AM and I’m tired.

I used to live in UK and the son of my host family graduated the Goldsmiths last year.
As far as I know, Goldsmiths isn’t difficult to get in for A Level or IB applicants.

For non A-Level and IB applicants,
I know that for schools like Oxbridge, UCL, Imperial, LSE, Warrick, You need AP Scores.
For St.Andrews, I heard you don’t need AP Scores.

And if I’m correct, you will be using UCAS to apply to Goldsmiths.
You will have to write a personal statement and it’s going to be different from the US college essays. In that personal statement, you will have to express your knowledge and why you are pursuing a certain major at Goldsmiths. In terms of writing about your background, it should be limited to 1~2 sentences. Its really about academics.

For US applicants to UK schools, ecs and transcripts dont matter.
