Gonzaga - worth the cost vs. public schools?

S1 has applied and been accepted to Gonzaga as well as a few other Pacific NW private schools and has received generous merit aid at all of them. He’s also applied to his in-state flagship - University of Idaho - and has the option of taking advantage of their NMF scholarship of full tuition, room & board for 4 years. GU has a very generous NMF award ($6,250-$7,500) also, just not the same impact as UI’s offer. He’s planning on majoring in business and has applied to the Honors Colleges at each school. All of the schools appear to have decent business program reputations, albeit some better than others.

Still waiting on official financial aid award letters for all schools, but know full well that UI is his best option financially, albeit it is not his 1st choice if finances were not an issue (which, inevitably, they are).

Interested in hearing from students (or parents) who have gone to Gonzaga as to their overall education experience and in looking back if you feel that it was worth the extra money spent in postioning yourself for employment upon graduation vs. the other option of attending a public university. With all that said, I realize to a certain degree one might be trying to compare apples & oranges between schools and that trying to judge true value with regards to employment right now is extremely difficult given the current state of the economy.

Shrinkrap - here’s a good link of one person’s personal website dedicated to Spokane, WA winter weather: [Spokane’s Winter Weather](http://www.dog-walker.us/weather.htm)

Thank you!

BTW, with a “little” merit, Gonzaga is “only” 7k more per year than University of California without merit or need base aid.

As a NMF is seems there may be higher tiered privates that could offer more merit than $7500. I’ve heard USC throws some decent money around for merit aid.

pardullet - yes, there definitely are a fair amount of schools that offer much more than $7,500. S1 looks like he’ll secure a full ride to his in-state flagship. Unfortunately, it’s not his first choice but that may very well be something he has to make the best of. With regards to the several well regarded private regional universities he’s applied to though, GU’s NMF award is head and shoulders above the rest - most only offer $2K max, and many offer nothing at all.
