ah yes im applying there… but i dont think im going to be able to go because my dad can only contribute 12k and we’re out of state. i love the school though

Supposedly Miami of Ohio has a good B-School, according to Business Week. Honestly, I don’t know why, and the thought of the school’s prestige on B-Week has been attacked on these boards. Hopefully someone can give me some imput.

Do you qualify for need based aid at private colleges? If $12K is less than your FAFSA and Profile based EFCs, your choices are down to merit aid schools or your own state schools.

If you do qualify for need based aid, you need to look at schools that meet 100% of need, most don’t.

my parents combined income is >60k so i do qualify for need based aid. my brother was a pell grant recipient last year so ill probably be one this year.

im looking for schools that meet (or try to meet) 100% of need.

Boston College is probably the only meet need college with a b-school that you have a shot of getting into. Will be a reach/high reach with those stats.
Be sure to apply to UH Manoa. It has a good international business program.

That is the catch, the most generous need based aid schools are the top ones. There are however, plenty for kids with your stats from an underrepresented state. Probably not no loan schools, but schools that meet 100% of need.

They also may not have business programs, but unless you want to be an accountant you’ll do just as well for business jobs studying econ. GW and Grinnell come to find as appropriate for your stats and meeting full need. Google ‘schools that meet 100% of need’ for a full list.

Grinnell will be a big reach for OP. ACT Range in 28-32 and his grades are at the lowest end of the spectrum. I had much higher stats and exceptional ECs and was waitlisted.

would boston college be harder than villanova? im applying to villanova school of business which is sortve a reach as well but im hoping my essay, recs, minority status, geographical diversity will help. im not too far from the 50% range.

Asian hurts more then helps. So you are further back. If you want a LAC you should be looking outside the top 30 most selective LACs. I do not think you would gain admission to Colgate. List what you are looking for in a school. You will need to apply to places where your test scores and grades are in the top twentieth of the class in order to get merit aid. Because I doubt you will be able to get enough need based aid to afford a college on that alone.

Ask yourself…

Do you want pre-professional or intellectual?
Quirky or Mainstream? (Artsy vs Preppy falls under that)
Rigorous or Laid-Back?
Location?
Size?
Urban or Rural?

Once you tell us these it will be much easier to help you find schools. You need to get your eyes off of the elite and prestige. You do not have the stats for them. However there are many fantastic and often overlooked schools (especially LACs) that you would be given every opportunity to succeed at.

well im hoping to get 30+ on my act in october, like i really think im going to so my test scores wont be a problem. ive taken the most rigourous schedule at my school, will graduate with 11 AP/IB/Honors. my extracurriculars are very very good, very well rounded. my only downside is my cumulative gpa. sorry i didnt go more into detail about my profile.

anyways, im just looking for schools with good business or economics programs. oh, and pre-proffessional for sure. i want to be in the finance industry (banking to be more specific, hopefully investment banker as an overall goal).

i dont care much for location except that i do not want to stay in hawaii.

but does filipino really hurt that much? if anything i thought it would help, especially for white dominant schools like villanova and boston college. i asked the admissions director at villanova when i visited if being filipino and from hawaii would help, and he said certainly. i know it wont get me into college though.

is colgate really that much of a reach? i read their 50% ranges and its really not too far from mine. their site lists their average gpa at 3.73 and act from 30-33. my act will certainly fall within that range come october.

anyways im not trying to prove myself here, im just trying to find more options.
