If you can afford to go to Pinecrest (figure 16,000 per) and can get in (which you probebly can't) it's the place. Just about everyone gets into U of F (and 30-40 go), a third of the class gets into IVYs, and 10% win merits.

IB's in Broward are at the low endof the IB scale, with theone serving the southern part of the county being something of a joke (mirimar)

Neither did I. In the northeast, schools comparable to pInecrest go for 30-40k. That said, if your smart enough and desirable enough for Pinecrest to take as a high school student, financial aid is frequently given.

Well I attend Miramar and I am in the 10th grade. I know you will all say youre not in IB yet so you really dont know. However Im in MYP (middle years program) and feel I am receiving dam good education. I feel that wee all need to remember that the IB program is relatively new at Miramar senior high and as a result still needs time to adjust to the demanding structure and rigor of the program. Our IB program is probably as diverse as the united nation, we have every ethnic group in our IB classes) .We have went through 3 IB coordinators in the last 5 years. How ever our diploma rate is similar to the other broward schools. (About 10 out of 38) also we have acceptances to ivys as well. The past valedictorian who had a 5.7 went to university of Rochester on a full scholarship (He also got accepted to numerous ivys). The salute went to Cornell to study pure math. I feel that although are results are not that high, our students still get a lout out of the program and learn a lot.

P.S 2 of the last 3 Student advisors to the broward county school board were in IB and attended Miramar high school .

I have heard that Boyd Anderson's IB program was excellent, that Deerfield's was decent, and that Miramar's wasn't that good. Does anyone know anything about Deerfield Beach High School?

Talk about upper class... my public high school is FREE... maybe my kids will be in the position you guys are in... but damn I was never even exposed to this world of boarding schools until CC...

I believe that to Boyd Anderson program was the best, and the only program where you had a chance of getting an IB diploma. But this is Florida and things change on adime so I can't be 100% sure. Call up both schools and ask each school how many IB diplomas were granted last year(I know at miramar the number was zero) Does that matter to you? Do you want to work THAT hard? Also ask each school for a list of what colleges the grad class enrolled in. With that info your answer should be obvious.

How can u say the number is zero, that totally false. If it was zero do you believe that the county would continue to offer the program, come on now .the pass rate as of last year was 10 out of 38. I know because the school highly praises them and there is a pictures of every person that past in the IB office. We also need to remember that Miramar ib school is the newest and is trying to see how the program actually works. Also our Ib curriculum is so much harder . At BA their IB electives are film studies and theater. AT Miramar we do offer theater however not many take it, they take physics or sociology. At BA many of there diploma students took math studies at Miramar it is almost taboo to take math studies. Also many of BA students take environmental sciences at Miramar for science you must either take physics chemistry or higher level biology. As you can see our ib philosophy is not just to get the diploma the easiest way possible its for student to come out the program knowing that they didn't take the easy way out. At Miramar we might miss the diploma (usually by like 2 to 3 points ) however I am positive we come out of high school fully prepared for college and Im positive if Miramar students took the same easy ways out our pass rate would be twice as high as BA

I am actually thinkins of attending BA's IB program, but the school is so bad. It is a D school. I am not sure if it is safe there. Is it worth it?

"I am not sure if it is safe there. Is it worth it?"

Hi seunglee,

I live in the Broward County area so hopefully I can give you some helpful tips as you select a high school. As you may or may not know, Boyd Anderson has a reputation of being a very "tough" school. A lot of kids there have had extremely rough backgrounds, and may have chips on their shoulders. They have an above average amount of in-school violence for a public school (though I couldn't find any articles on the internet backing this claim up).

You should never put your education in front of your personal safety. You have to consider the fact that you are going to have to deal with this issue every day. Do you want to have to go to school everyday knowing that many of your classmates are carrying weapons? As long as you have the means to, I would suggest not going to this school.

From your previous posts, it seems as though your financial situation does not allow for you to go to a private school (although this is none of my business). However, this does not disallow you from getting an outstanding education. Schools like Stoneman Douglas and Pompano will give you more academic opportunities than you probably even need.
In the end, the only determining factor in receiving a great education will be yourself. Only you can decided how much you are going to take out of your whole academic experience. Good luck with your search!

See there's the problem peoples see Miramar as a minority school and feel that nothing good can come out of it. If you dont believe call the ib coordinator at our school. His name is Mr. lamb, And the school phone number is (754)323-1350.

North Boward Prep is a fine school--the son of the Pinecrest Headmaster just graduated from there....It's not a top prep, so if you're looking for a scholarship to a good college you'll have to work hard and be at the top of the class--or awfully near it. Sound's like a fine opportunity.
