Hello! I really want to go to a top undergraduate business school, but I need some help finding them. I have a 35 on my ACT and a 4.487 weighted GPA. I'm 19th out of about 510 in my class. For SAT IIs I have a 760 on Chemistry and a 770 on Math 2. I have decent extracurriculars with some leadership. I like the idea of preferred admission or direct admission for a business school, but I'm open to anything really. I'm pretty much open to any location for a college. Can you guys recommend some good undergraduate business schools that are in my reach? Thanks!

P.S. The Wharton School at UPenn is my dream school. I applied there Early Decision. Is there any realistic chance of me getting in there? What about PA at University of Michigan? Thanks!

You can also look into NYU, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, Boston College, UTexas, UNC, URichmond. Somewhat less competitive but still excellent choices to consider Villanova, UIndiana, Lehigh, Bucknell.

Make sure you check the Net Price Calculators on each school’s web site. For instance, as an OOS student you would be full pay at UMich and UTexas ($50K+/year).

What about PA at University of Michigan? Thanks!

What is PA?

What is your budget? How much will your parents pay each year? If you’re not sure, ask them.

OOS publics don’t give much/any need-based aid. Some privates give good aid if you qualify. However, your family would have to pay whatever is expected for them to pay.

Your numbers are fine for Wharton. However, it’s a crapshoot. The rest of your application (and the admissions officer’s impressions) will determine whether you’ve distinguished yourself from many other applicants with similarly impressive numbers. Look at the top 10-15 business schools in USNews. You have a good chance to get into U Mich - Ross.

Preferred Admissions at UMich is almost as much of a crapshoot but don’t let not getting in PA deter you. You are plenty bright enough to get in after your freshman year.

OP, you’ve gotten a lot of great suggestions, so maybe you’re bumping the thread to get recommendations for safeties? Or are you unfamiliar with the US News listings?

I’d agree that stats-wise you’re in the ballpark for Wharton, but with an admissions rate of something like 5%, it’s a crap-shoot for anybody without a legacy (and probably with one unless your last name is Trump, Perelman or Lauder), so it’s good you’re looking for other options.

What’s your state flagship? If you’re in PA, apply to Penn State. The Smeal College of Business is extremely popular with in-state kids and you are likely competitive for Schreyer Honors College with your stats. You can apply rolling while you await the Wharton decision.

If you’re looking for a good safety school, and money isn’t an issue, check out Babson College in Wellseley, MA. Their graduates do very well and it’s solely a business school.
