Good college for zoology/ animal science?

I'm planning on going to school for vet medicine over at University of Edinburgh. So I am going to need zoology/animal science to get in. What's a good college for those majors?

I'm thinking of the following universities...

North Carolina State University *

University of California Davis *

Colorado State University *

University of Pennsylvania *

Oregon State University

University of Maryland, College Park

Michigan State University

Washington State University

University of Arizona

Ohio State / Washington State

I'd like to go to NCSU the most, but I've been looking up reviews and most say it's just kinda an average school in the middle of a run down city.

Any ideas on which school I should attend?

UW-Madison would be better than many of those. Have you looked into it?

Wisconsin has fabulous zoology and animal science programs as well as a vet school. Biological sciences in general are top notch. A great campus and wonderful city in which to go to school too.

UW Madison has a Swedish/ Norwegian program?
It’s just gone up on my list.

I’ve cut down my options to numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 and UW M and University of Minnesota

Anyone have a review on North Carolina State’s friendliness of students and teachers, academics and what not?

I don’t think Raleigh is a “run down” city at all. The Triangle is growing by leaps and bounds, in fact. [This ranking](City Mayors: Fastest growing US cities) places Raleigh 9th in the country for total population growth, and [this ranking](City Mayors: Fastest growing US cities 2007) places it 20th in percentage growth.

NC State’s agriculture/animal sci/wildlife programs are top notch, and though State’s student body is generally less talented than Carolina’s, those programs (not offered at UNC) attract very bright students.

I’m very fond of State, though it does have a boring campus, but I lack first-hand experience with it.

Or you could do like the vast majority of people and simply pursue vet medicine at Edinburgh as an undergrad and save quite a bit of money.

Be aware that your qualifications may not transfer if you choose to practice in the US. There’s a commission that inspects vets trained overseas, however, and the program at Edinburgh is respected enough that its graduates should pass inspection.

Yes, after more inspection of the city I found that on some sites Raleigh is one of the top cities to live in!

That is good though. My friend and I want to attend the same school, she wants to go into either psych/ criminology or into the arts and I guess UNC has a better psych program.
I really do not care about the looks of the campus, as long as it isn’t crummy really. I actually like brick quite a lot.

I’m going to be moving over to England. I would ask if University of Edinburgh has a very good vet program but no one prolly knows. I haven’t been able to find a UK college site like this.

Anyone else?? -bump-

axisxpowers,

Which, if any, of these schools on your list are in-state for you? You need to find one that can be an admissions and financial safety, and chances are that will be an in-state public U.

What are the requirements for admission to the vet school at U of Edinburgh? How will you pay for that degree? You need to find out about these things.

Where do you want to practice veterinary medicine? The US? The UK? If you don’t know yet, you need to investigate licensing requirements and whether or not there is reciprocity between these two countries. Also, if you are thinking of working in the UK, find out how hard it will be for you to get a work permit if you need one.
