Question: I'm currently applying to a few very selective schools (mainly MIT and Stanford), but since there's a chance I won't get accepted to any of those, I'm trying to decide on safety schools that are well-known in engineering. Any suggestions?

If you are a serious contender for MIT and Stanford, then Purdue would be a safety for you and Michigan should be a safe match.

UIUC and Michigan are top Engineering schools that are relatively less selective than schools like MIT, Stanford, and Caltech.

Which engineering?

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology?

I went to a college fair the other day and it seems like they are a big engineering school in the black hills.

If you're competitive for Stanford and MIT, you shouldn't have much trouble getting into Georgia Tech, either.
