good food science/medicine universities?? THANKS!

my friend here wants to know what suggestions anyone has on medicine/food science universities. thanks!

The only school that I know has a food science major is cornell.

oh ok..cool....how about medicine??

What do you mean by Medicine? As in doctors? Thats medical school, not undergraduate.

ok fine pre-med...what you study first to be a doctor!!!I dont know my friend here is not very informed thats why she asked me to ask...youre the ones who know more about this :)

Well you can study anything for pre-medschool but many major in Biology or Molecular Biology or Biochemistry. It all depends on what you want as your major for undergraduate, from history to psychology to kinesiology all are acceptable undergrad majors for med school.

Wisconsin Madison

awesome thanks ;)

ok great! ill look that up :)

Purdue University in West Lafayette also has a fine Food Science Program and the medical school closest is Indiana University Indianapolis. Many Purdue undergrads feed into the IU Medical Program. These campuses are approx. 60 miles apart.

http://medicine.iu.edu/admissions/

The University of Nebraska - Lincoln has a food science major as well.

For admission to medical school, major has absolutely no effect on admissions - the same ratios of majors that apply get accepted (ie, if 60% of applicants are Bio and 5% are History, then 60% of matriculants are bio and 5% are history). Food science is actually not a bad pre-med major, particularly if your friend finds it interesting.

Also look at the University of Florida - Food Science is within their College of Agricultural and Life Sciences

For food science, I'll second U of Nebraska-Lincoln and toss Washington State University into the ring as well. WSU's placement for medical school applicants is quite successful.

NC State University has a good food science program....medical schools just down the road include Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and East Carolina University

Medical School admissions officers are always looking for people with diverse backgrounds and majors. So, a unique major like food science would probably be very appealing to a medical school whose primary applicants majored in more common areas like Biology, Chemistry, etc.
