What are good gifts to get for high school graduates? Anyone got good ideas? Anything will be appreciated.

Do you have a price point?

There are so many options! Especially if the grad is college bound: a laptop, a camera, gift certificates to college bookstore, starbucks card, a roll of quarters for laundry, a guide to the city/area where the college is located, flip flops (for dorm showers), a T-shirt/mug from your hometown to show local “pride”

Money is always a good choice. I was able to put all my graduation money toward the purchase of laptop/netbook combo, which is what I wanted. I didn’t want any of that other stuff, most of which I already had.

Do any schools use quarters for laundry anymore? I think all the schools we visited used a debit system using the student’s ID card.

We also appreciated the target and wal mart cards. We gave our son a nice set of golf clubs with a bag in his college colors. he golfed on the high school team but used his dad’s clubs.

Please don’t laugh, but I just bought several “plug-in” cookie makers! I figure when a kid needs some old fashioned comfort, nothing like a fresh baked cookie. You plug it in, it makes about 5 or 6 cookies at a time, with a roll of dough in the mini-fridge (do they still have those?), my 17-year old thought it was a great idea. Maybe just more clutter, but that’s what I’m giving this year!

D1 got a set of basic tools, which I thought was a very good idea.

Any suggestions for a small gift for a student who is graduating, but doing a gap year in a foreign exchange program (in India) before college?

Sujor, are you taking about the kids’ toy that really cooks? (Easy Bake Oven)

On the cheaper side and will make a good gift for college - the Rock It Portable Vibration Speaker (search amazon) - saw it on Shark Tank and the sharks were pretty giddy about the product.

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre.

For my S and a couple of his friends I ordered “The Naked Roommate” (book). For the young lady who will be traveling, I bought a hand-crank emergency flashlight/USB charger. I figure that could come in handy on occasion, and it’s light for packing (5oz).

Two options: Cash or check. It’s what everyone really wants.

I usually do cash, check, or gift card.

For a tangible gift, I have given this pop-up hamper to D (who rarely gives positive feedback but loved this, especially the sturdy strap) and a dear friend from church.

Last winter I sent my freshman “buckey balls” (magnetic toy fun), and it has been a hit. The set is very small [Buckyballs Official Site - Home of the World’s Best Selling Desktoy](http://www.getbuckyballs.com/)

It’s my understanding that many dorms do not permit heating devices such as crockpots, coffee makers, or microwaves, so this may not be permitted either and your thoughtful gift may go to waste.

Cash or gift cards to local restaurants / cafes are mostly what I would give. Let people come up with their own clutter!

Sometimes these types of appliances can be used in the shared kitchen but not in the rooms.

LOL, NOT an easy bake oven but that really did make me LOL. [Bella Cucina 13538 Cookie Maker](http://www.stylefeeder.com/i/bqr8lbnk/Bella-Cucina-13538-Cookie-Maker)

Good point about the electric heating stuff in the dorms, I hadn’t considered that. Will ponder before giving.

This is a really nice forum.

Speaking as a college student i’d say Money, Gift Cards, and a Dr. Seuss book called Oh, The Places You’ll Go are 3 excellent gift ideas.

My D quoted one of the pages from " Oh the places you will go" in her Val speech. Her favorite teacher gave her the Dr Seuss book and a engraved luggage tag from Pottery Barn for " all the places she will go". Her favorite grad gift!!!

I bought a selection of 'snack foods", (candy, crackers, popcorn, pop up wipes) which was suggested on another thread. I am also including a Barnes and Noble gift card, since most campuses have a BN bookstore.
