Hey there!
I am a senior looking at applying for schools (many of which are private out of state), and had a few questions regarding my chances for admission. Let me start off by introducing myself; I am a very extracurricular-minded person, so in other words, I’ve spent my high school years involved in many different clubs, organizations, and working for various companies. I’m a Computer Science guy, I’ve been coding since I was in fifth grade. I took two years of AP Computer Science, received an A + (highest in the class) during all four semesters. I guess you can say I have a gift in this area, and as of now I am working two jobs (Communications Director at Marketing Firm, Management at a well-known Audio-visual company) and currently the owner of a tech firm that will launching a new way of creating websites by this Winter (can’t give out specific names or details at this point). In addition to my that, I am currently working on coding a rocket launch sequence which will be used in a NASA-sponsored rocket competition. To recap all that, I’m very involved with building my career. My current clubs and extracurricular that I am involved in school-wise are listed below:
- Engineering Club (President, Junior and Senior year)
- Nerd Club (Off-Campus Representative, Sophomore - Senior year)
- Academy for the Performing Arts Audio Engineering
- BRIDGES Community outreach
I have a few more that I don’t have off the top of my head, but for now I’ll say that’s my list. As for ACT scores, I am planning on taking the ACT October 24th (a tad bit late I know), and am currently taking prep. courses to ensure a decent score (my target is 26-28). Ok, so now for the academics part (gulp). I have pushed myself through high school for the most part, taking on 2 AP classes per year starting from my Sophomore year (currently taking 3 right now). I’ll list out my individual gpa (I have no clue which gpa colleges look at the most)
Overall GPA UW: 3.06
Overall GPA W: 3.26
10-12th GPA UW: 2.88
10-12th GPA W: 3.18
Academic GPA UW: 2.98
Academic GPA W: 3.18
While my gpa overall may not seem too bad, the issues I’m having are with some individual letter grades. I have a 4 Ds (1 in Engish from 10th grade 1st semester, 1 in Geometry 10th grade 1st semester, and 2 due to both semesters of Chemistry during junior year). My academic grades are good for the most part, and in fact any D I received prior (with the exception of Chemistry) had raised at least one full letter grade by second semester (English, for instance, raised to a B by 2nd semester). This being said, what would my chances be if I was applying for the following schools this fall (they aren’t very competitive for the most part):
- Baylor University
- Point Loma University
- Belmont University
- Pepperdine (probably a reach)
- UT San Antonio
- Trinity University
- Suffolk University
- Pace University
- Florida Institute of Technology
- Georgia Tech
Overall, what’s your thoughts on my chances of being admitted? My first choice is Baylor, what are my chances at this school mainly?
Let me know, thanks!
