I'm searching for small to mid size colleges with good LD support. S3 has ADHD and I would like to have him closer to home (west coast). I've noticed there are some good programs on the east coast or at the large universities. I'm afraid he would fall through the cracks at a big university (also he has said he wants a small college). Any suggestions out west?

I’m just going to give you a list of colleges that seem to work really well for students with LD and ADD/ADHD based on the matriculation and graduation of students from LD high schools here in So. Cal. Not going to discuss size of the student body – I’m sure you can figure out which is small, medium, and large. In no particular order they are:

Whittier College
Cal State Channel Islands*
Cal State Northridge
Cal State Monterey Bay*
Santa Clara
Cal State Humboldt
University of Oregon*
University of Arizona (Salt program)*
UC Riverside*
UC Irvine*
UC Berkeley*

Those with asterixes are those that I have visited AND had meetings with DSP counselors, so got the “feel” of involvement – at least as of 2006/2007. I met with other DSP counselors at other colleges and universities in the West not on this list, and left them off the list because I felt the programs were offered “because they had to” rather than because they wanted to help enrich a student’s life. My opinion, yeah, but I value my gut feeling on things like this.

This basically sums up the colleges I wished I had considered applying.

I am interested in Whittier, Oregon and Arizona.
