Good looking People?

Well, my daughter applied to NU, waiting to see if she's in...and she's beautiful!

Not to be disrespectful, yankeegirl49, but I find your comment funny and completely irrelevant because your daughter's not even an NU student, therefore she doesn't represent the general student body. And she's your daughter..!

I think yankeegirl's comment was cute.

Well, my daughter IS at NU. She's beautiful in many many ways, and not just beautiful to look at. Everybody has a right to be preoccupied with appearances, but it's also understandable that some folks here would be disappointed to see such a focus on it. A lot of damage is done to a lot of people by our collective obsession with appearances. There's an ugly side to it, and I find it very refreshing that chlor and others were willing to speak up about it.

yankeegirl49, good luck to your daughter!

Yeah, appearance is just a bunch of dead skin cells.

Uhhh...don't take everythign so serious, it was said tounge in cheek with the assumption that everyone would realize that of course a parent would say her daughter is beautiful.
Nan..thanks so much.

for some reason, I find it extremely funny that someone defended the OP earlier by stating that "different people have different needs".

haha why are people spazzing out at the person who started this thread? i'm curious to see how attractive people are at northwestern, myself. o.O why is it such a big deal?

good personality is hard to come by these days, but if it does, good looking would definitely be better, hehe

That is some INSANE necromancy, that is.

well this thread is funny~ as an asian myself i dont think asian guys are that attractive.

This is barely worth legitimizing with a response.
Do me a favor, mesophyll and nimx, DON'T COME HERE. This is a place for intelligent people who want to enjoy 4 years, not for people who refuse to grow out of puberty. Better yet, come here and then try to oggle at all of the girls in your classes and see how that works out for you. Surprisingly, girls, both here and everywhere, have self-respect. Good luck while "mac'ing on the hunnies".
Seriously, grow up. Neither of you are ready for college yet. Sorry.

why are ppl so uptight about this thread? i cant believe ppl are hating the OP so much. it was just a question. why not just answer it and move on? ppl have different tastes and preferences. is it that bad to hope for good looking people? anyways, when I went to preview NU and walked around the campus, the ppl were better looking than I thought they would be. good mix of people is all i can i really say.

To clarify my earlier post: this thread was from December 2005. Its done. No one cares. Let it die.

here's the truth: Girls are hot, guys are a disaster. It's the truth. And it's totally legitimate to ask! It has nothing to do with how mature you are, people at any stage in their life want to be surrounded by physically attractive peers, that's a fact of life. That being said, I never cared about that, it never factored into my decision before I came here. But now that I see that the situation with guys is so desperate for us girls that I am seriously bothered by it.
Arbiter, you are right, we should let it die. But I felt like this really needed to be put out there.

Reason for UCI being one of my backups:

a.) decent engineering

b.) 50% are asian-americans, therefore (approximately) 25% are girls and 25% are guys, which means...

plenty of hot chicks to pick from! =) AND ITS IN IRVINE!! c'MONE!! everyone in UCI is HOT! by golly

Sorry to burst your bubble (or anyone else's), but the majority of Asian girls (like those of any other group) are AVERAGE or slightly below or above (hardly anything to get excited about).

The % of truly attractive people is pretty small (I'd say about 5-7%), and that applies to Asian females (as well as all females and males, regardless of race/ethnicity).

That's b/c you have been unduly influenced by your environment/the media - Asian male stars like Kim Sung soo, Oh Ji-ho, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Won Bin, Kwon Sang-woo, Tony Leung, Song Seung-hun, etc. don't take a back seat to anyone that Hollywood has to offer.

If that's the case - then things must have changed drastically since I went to NU (or you are hanging out w/ the wrong people).

While NU has its "techgeeks" (not all teckgeeks are "nerdy" - I knew a no. who were complete studs), NU also has its pop. of "pretty-boy" jocks/frat-boys.

Due to the theater program (Courtney Thorne-Smith and Kimberly Williams, while attractive, wouldn't be considered among the most attractive girls on campus - or at least when I was there) and the high % of students from the NorthShore and other affluent burbs from across the country - NU has more than its fair share of "beautiful people."

There's no reason to believe one top school has significantly higher/lower fraction of "good looking" people than another top school of similar kind. NU isn't a tech school and isn't full of nerds. There are lots of various types. If you have racial preference, then that's your own problem (e.g. go to Bob Jones if you only want whites). If your fantasy is for beach girls and guys, go to some party schools in Florida. If you have a thing for models/models wannabes, go to some local film or acting schools in Los Angeles. If you somehow believe there's some sort of invisible force that draws "good looking" people to one top school over another, you probably don't fit what top schools like NU look for.

K&S: Yes, in that case, things must have changed drastically. My sorority frequently hangs out with the 'pretty-boy' frat guys that you referred to(I assume we're talking about the same kind of people in the greek system)- although one could argue that even with these houses it's a matter of taste. The general opinion among the girls in my sorority and in houses that we are close with is the one I voice in the above post, I hear it every single day, that's pretty much all I can say at this point without naming specific groups.

haha i don't this question is all that crazy o.O i'd be curious too.

i go to NU right now... and i'd say the girls are typically pretty attractive... the guys.. not so much.

LaC -

LOL!!

I would think that this would be cyclical (since admissions has no idea who is good-looking or not - unless they are checking Myspace, etc.) - and unfortunately for you, it seems NU is on a "down" cycle with regard to guys.
