I'm in to NU and seriuosly considering it .. but i get the feeling its a really serious place ..not fun at all as in no school spirit etc...
if anybody here attends or visited , wouldn mind knowing how the social scene, schools spirit, hot girls etc...?

wow, I had totally the opposite feeling about NW, but I may be wrong. Everyone knows that NW is an extremely prestigious academic institution but I always thought that the kids do study hard and have fun b/c of NW's Big 10 sports. I mean to be a member of that division should defintely in theory at least draw some kids to games to see them lose in football to Michigan and Wisconsin or sometimes pull off the upset. ;)

When I visited there in October, I also had the feeling of school spirit and students having fun. They had just beat OSU in football (i think that's who it was) and everyone was like celebrating and what not.. But yeah, from what I hear everyone knows how to have fun, but also when to get serious and study. I think it's a good mix.

"if anybody here attends or visited , wouldn mind knowing how the social scene, schools spirit, hot girls etc...?"

"hot girls"? well, I think one of the Miss Americas went to NU. On the other hand, there didn't seem to be a lot of dating going on. Perhaps everyone was too occupied with ECs, classes, research, career plans...etc. Most of my friends didnt' have bf/gfs and most hung out in groups of at least 3 or so.

Can anyone tell me any good school where dating is pervasive and kids have a lot of fun??? I think every good school has some elements of the "fun college life" but academics are defintely an integral part of the college experience at these institutions.

The dating scene at most of these top schools are not the greatest. If you really want to date, join a sorority/fraternity, attend a party school or large state school.

I know when I enrolled into Northwestern, finding a bf/gf was not at the top of my list. I will become a junior soon and I still don't have a bf. Am I angry? Not at all. Right now I'm worried about finishing my majors and applying for internships and grad school. After college is when real dating begins. =)

A lot of the students at top schools were the ones in high school studying while a lot of other people were out partying; therefore, they probably do the same in school, or they might not have the social skills if they really want to go out.

Since I am from the area and have taken classes with undergraduates (and am currently), I think I am qualified to answer this--but I'm not a student there, so don't hold me to it if I'm wrong.
They have fun, and yes there is a lot of school spirit-just like any other school. Plus, those of you lucky enough to attend, will be literally minutes away from Chicago. CHICAGO. <---As in the city. You will be fine!
