Dear all,

At the onset of the college-selection season starting in April, I fully intended to be as helpful as possible to prospective students considering Princeton for the next four years of their education. However, April has been an absolutely terrible month for me, and I haven't been in great health. As a result, for the past few weeks I have not gotten much of a chance to answer many questions as I enjoy doing so much. Just to get it off my chest and so the 2011s know, I have taken a leave of absence from Princeton starting this week, and I will return for the start of the Spring Term in 2008. This technically means that I am now a member of the Class of 2011, although in records kept by the Alumni Association I will still be listed as a Class of 2010, so I guess you can call me a Class of '10 1/2. In any case, I think its important for incoming students to know that if you do run into some obstacles or unexpected circumstances during your time at Princeton, the school always gives you the option of taking a voluntary leave of absence, and then you can return to Princeton at the start of the the term (Fall or Spring) during which you decided to leave. There's no hassle or and very little paperwork, and a couple weeks before the start of the term, Princeton will call you and ask if you're ready to come back, and if you are, your academic status is immediately reactivated. All that's left is getting ready for the start of classes.

One of my friends in the Princeton Band was a junior in 2001, and when the tragic attacks on our country occurred in September, he decided it was his duty to serve his country. He took a leave of absence from Princeton, and joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably in Colombia for 5 years. In 2006, when he returned from service, he phoned Princeton to request to re-enroll, and there was nothing else to it.

I think it's great that Princeton is so accommodating in this way, really affirming the Princeton maxim "Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger".

As for me, I intend to work on recovering, hopefully spending some time volunteering at my local Animal Hospital, and possibly interning under a veterinarian at a conservation center in Florida.

Anyway, I probably will not be perusing CC very much for a while, but I wish everyone, especially the Class of '11 (of which I'm now a part) luck in the fall.
