these people had everything done.

Did you see their entire application? If you are receiving word from them, there is a good chance they will not let you know about a part of their application that was in some way lacking. That's because if they were aware of it, they wouldn't have been surprised about being rejected.

It's wrong to think there's a "ghost" in the system unless you can rule out other factors.

So unless you take a look at their file, as the adcoms did, you cannot say it was a case of a "4.0, qualified" student getting rejected.

Yep, if I get straight A's this semester, it'll be a really good push.

I don't care what your stats are, those letters are scary to get. Cal was not that big of a deal for me, as I had already accepted UCLA. However the morning that I knew the UCLA decision were going to come out I was freaking out. I also had a pretty decent GPA with everything done. When one letter will have such a big impact on your life, it is terrifying to wait for it.

Hey allena. I am pretty sure i will have straight A's this semester and have about a 3.53 gpa and a 3.5 gpa in my major. Am I in a good position.btw i am a history major.

So far, so good...

"When one letter will have such a big impact on your life, it is terrifying to wait for it."

I can agree with that. Although I'm hoping not to go crazy. And yeah--3.5 is GOOD. A 3.5 beats the average of admits to every UC; remember that College Confidential users are disproportionately qualified.

I think to those who have a < 3.5 with honors and great amount of ECs and an a really supportive essay have a great chance. Its the people at 3.45 that should worry!

I agree except for the honors part. Berkeley doesn't even list honors classes or certification as something they look for--the programs obviously vary greatly depending on the CCC. Even at a CCC with a big honors program, you still have to take most classes the REGULAR way.

And a 3.4 is still good depending on the major and school obviously.

there is this guy in my psychology class who got in with a 3.1, and this major is extremely impacted. he said he had a good personal statement that he worked on for about 6 months or so

kevintech, I sure hope you do not have a 3.45.

3.5 is about right for history. My best advice is get done all of the lower division stuff, since there really are not that many. Also remember that you have to take a History 97 course here, so you'll actually have on GE class left when admitted. As said above, this site can be the biggest blow to your confidence possible. I had a very strong GPA last year plus all the honors stuff, and I still was questioning if it'd be enough.

:) Perpare yourself to read A LOT once you get here!

If the prerequisites aren't available at your college they aren't expecting you to complete them however. A few prerequisites are only available at like 5 of the plus 100 colleges.

What if you leave one of prerequisites for the Spring. Will it hurt much?

No, but in the impacted majors where most if not all of admitted students have finished the prereqs, it could be a slight factor.

haybaxt, if you can finish it all by spring, it's all legal.

He is wondering if it will hurt his chances of admission, not if the classes are credited.

Yeah, I know, Gabe. The rule is by spring before you transfer.

To Kevintech. I guess Gabe is right. You can do it, but it will slighly decrease your chances.

Haybaxt--it will only slightly decrease for a few particular majors--otherwise NO EFFECT.
