What would be a good minor for a psychology major who wants to be a clinical social worker, other than language minors?

Do know that you’re gonna need more than a Bachelor’s in Psych to go into clinical counseling. You’ll want to get a MSW after undergrad.

But as far as your undergrad minor… sociology, family social sciences, statistics, business, just to name a few. If your university offers an undergrad social work program, check what they have. I don’t think that’s particularily common though.

yea i know im going to have to go to graduate school

There’s also biology or chemistry.

Probably something useful like Business.

^ don’t be a judgmental jerk.

Biology, cognitive sciences will be important if you’re going to be in a clinical setting. Sociology (does provide a different perspective than psychology). Cultural studies…there are a lot of good courses to take, but it doesn’t mean you have to add a bunch of minors - just take a variety of courses to broaden your understanding and to fill prerequisites for graduate study. Research methods and statistics are always welcome for these fields.

It kind of depends what in psych you are into. If you like cognitive stuff or neuroscience at all, I’d go for a science like biology or chem. If you like counseling/clinical stuff, try sociology or even communication arts - I’m in a comm arts class right now, and I think the stuff we’re learning would be great for a social worker to know. Something like statistics would be really helpful for any psych major. And then there are things like a language or math or business minor that are useful in any case.

Economics.

Economics, economics, economics. Did you know that several psychologists have won the Nobel Prize for Economics???

rymd: I don’t know what I did to rile you up, but I’m glad I did it. And you’re insufferably childish response made me very happy. :)

I think philosophy is good.

xelbms: hi jerk
