good music programs?

which top school has an excellent music program? (facilities, majors, faculty, ensembles, endowment)... I know yale is pretty good...

also, which top school has great music libraries (CDs) and which ones don't?

Not so sure about research universities, but you might want to look into Oberlin if you want a liberal-arts feel.

There is another thread active on College Search along these lines:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=384515%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=384515</a></p>

Northwestern, Rice, Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Rochester, etc.

Some (e.g. Northwestern) offer separate application tracks for a pure music degree and for dual degrees (music and arts/science).

The Music Major forum will be very helpful to you. Yale does not offer undergraduate music performance degrees. Do a search on the music focus of interest (voice performance, violin performance, music education, composition, etc) and you'll get a large number of threads with much information.
