Hi I'm currently researching possible neuroscience grad programs to apply for. I want to study learning/memory or related topics.
My current gpa is a 4.0 and it will probably stay around that general range. As for my GRE scores, I haven't taken them officially yet, but on practice tests I've been scoring in the 700s for the quantitative and 500s for the verbal. I'm hoping to raise my verbal score significantly before I take the test for real. I will have about 3 years of research experience (undergrad) before I graduate, and hopefully have some pretty good LORs.
Anyways, what are some good/ok/safety schools I could consider for that neuroscience topic?

Look up professors who do something related to what you want to do. Sure Harvard or Yale might sound like great schools, but what if you do not find someone you’d like to work with? If you are a rising senior then you can use your summer to look up schools and professors to start making a list and deciding to which places you want to/will apply. If you are a rising junior then you still have a whole year and can probably focus on more important things (classes, perhaps get the GRE out of the way and maybe apply for summer research outside of your home institution).

GPA and research wise, I think you are completely fine. A 4.0 and 3 years of research experience are great, and if you are a senior then you do not have to worry anymore about your GPA 'cause you will send your transcript up to spring semester (most deadlines are December 1st and most schools don’t end their fall semester until mid Dec., unless you are in a quarter system).

Good luck! With your grades, experience and letters of rec. (plus a solid personal statement) I assume that you can get into many great schools.
