Most students in the US can’t afford boarding school either. I’m sorry you’re having this challenge.
Have you contacted the schools to ask them about your situation? We can’t really offer advice because we don’t know the details. They’ll be able to tell you if anything can be done.
@CaliMax Shouldnt they rescind the tuition thingy if they were genuinely non profits? On top of that, over 53% of kids at Andover are full-pay, which makes me skeptical about their “need-blind” policy. Give a glint on those need blind schools like MIT, over 90% of kids there are on financial aid. Data is objective. Those BS PURPORT to be need blind. But are they? @austinmshauri I did contact those schools a week ago, yet, hitherto, no reply received! Granted that they did grant me some sort of financial aid, my student visa application would be most likely denied by the ambassador as I do not have some of the mandatory documents, again, even the government of the states expects an international student to bring money to the states, but not ingenuity and talents. I have heard of an intelligent student which got accepted by Harvard but his student visa app got denied. By the dint of what? He was on financial aid.
Unfortunately, even non-profits have to pay their bills - teachers’ salaries, electricity, food for all those hungry boarders…
The cost of running these schools is quite high and the cost to educate each kid is generally more than their tuition. Usually the endowment covers the gap.
They might be non profits towards domestic applicants, but not international ones, they expect international applicants to bring them cash, but not ingenuity nor talents @dogsmama1997
@NoJumpJustHum: Do you have a question? I’m not sure what the point of this thread is. You seem to be upset about some missing documentation that has stopped your application process, but we can’t help you with that unless you get more specific. If you can’t get specific, then I’m not sure what you’re looking for here.
Also, you don’t seem to understand the term “need-blind,” so I suggest looking up the many threads on that topic to get a better understanding of how boarding schools fund their operations and their student bodies. Andover is the only boarding school that still claims to be need blind, but many others state that they will meet 100% of demonstrated need. If a school wants a particular student badly enough, financial need will not stand in the way of offering admission to that student.
@NoJumpJustHum For someone who seems so angry at the US and Exeter/Andover, it’s surprising how.much you seem to want to come and enjoy the American boarding school experience.
@BordDuLac I ain’t angry. Given the wherewithal, I would prefer eton (which is not need blind nor need based) to American boarding schools. @ChoatieMom I am “in dearth of” a tax form, I wouldn’t be awarded any aid and my student visa application would most likely be denied on the basis of the “dearth”.
Boarding schools might prefer students with a more positive attitude or at least ones who are more respectful and polite to others. They aren’t merely schools/academic factories, but residential communities.
@CaliMex Apologies for being presumptuous. I would presume that you have viewed the whole thingy with your own perspective, but not other viewpoints. Unlike you, what I am facing is an inextricable abyss
Wow! This is a multi-page thread that IMO did not deserve a single response. No question was posted and the title and opening statement alone suggest that the poster is in fact facing inextricable arrogance. Per a previous post, the poster is from a “prominent school in hongkong which has a barely 10% acceptance rate”, not a refugee camp or similarly challenging situation…so let’s put down the violins.
@NoJumpJustHum In hopes that you are still young enough to actually learn from this situation and become a person who can share and interact in forums like these in a remotely positive way, let me share some advise. Having myself come from having nothing in my youth (as opposed to your situation), I learned that path to success (objective and more importantly, subjective) is paved with MANY failures and only through hard work, humility and the earned goodwill of others do you achieve victories. And this last part is really important, so you should probably write this down…
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
I’m in agreement with @Altras . No question was asked and no advice was sought. Whatever discussion ensued after the first post is simply a circular error. I wish the OP the best of luck in the future, but am closing this thread.
