Good News for SCEAing CCers...

13% decline in SCEA apps --> greater SCEA admit rate?

Best,
DMW

i guess that the 13% went to princeton...which is a lot better :P

interesting......

It says not to overanalyze the statistics, but that does sound like pretty good news.

sounds slightly encouraging to me

That's good news...right? Maybe that just means the SCEA pool is more concentrated...more smart people...

i don't interpret it as amazing news... obviously it helps all the applicants, but i'd imagine that the 500 less apps are probably accounted for by weaker potential applicants being discouraged bc of yale's tiny admission statistics.

It just means they'll accept less people since they have less applications to choose from.

I don't think that's necessarily true. If Yale thinks the reason that their applicant pool is smaller than normal is the low admit rate last year, I think they may try to accept a larger percentage of the early pool this year. Because it is smaller, they could up this percentage without accepting more students early than usual.

I agree with elihopeful. Also, they may be slightly more concerned about yield this year, meaning they may accept more applicants - especially SCEAers (whether in the early round or after being deferred), who are more likely to attend.

God I hope so. I hope they care about yield that much...

now i'll feel even worse when i'm rejected from a smaller pool...

smile222

don't be that negative... have some faith, you surely are a very good applicant.. and don't depressed now when you can't do anything more... relax, and wait til the decision day...

In light of the fact that Harvard and Stanford's applications went UP not down... do you guys think Yale will be scared about its yield?

I don't understand what you mean by being "scared."

Sorry, to clarify... Given they are apparently the only one amongst their peers who have experienced a dramatic drop in applications, they could be concerned (not scared) that they will have trouble attracting more candidates in the regular round. So to offset this, they would accept a higher amount in the early round since most all of those that applied early to Yale would consider it their first choice. Basically, do you think they will depend more on their early admits to flll out the class?

Let's hope so!

Interesting...according to that article, the number of applicants from competitive high schools didn't drop. So the qualified applicants are still applying, it's the unqualified ones who are scared of the low acceptance rate and are backing away from Yale.

****. This only makes it more competitive.

Where does the article say that. It's not something I see explicitly stated.

Yeah, lol, what?
