Hooray?

...

Lol @ aerialblue...

I've been meaning to ask:

Why are we worried about the effect of a 6% drop, when the past few years we have had significant gains, including 2007 which saw 21.6% growth?

Endowments grow wary, but see opportunities | Special Coverage | Reuters

Have we already increased our spending by that much. If so, why can't we just scale back those particular expenditures...?

The only answer I could come up with is that they are expecting multiple years of decline, so they want to be prepared for it now. But, i'm not convinced, because many predict that even if we aren't fully recovered, the stock market will start back up (because it is an indication of the future).

I think all will be fine if they just stop subsidizing the sushi at Collis.

Yeah... seriously.

They also need to stop spending 350 grand on orientation week alone.

There's definitely a lot of fat to be cut around here.

I have to say Dartmoose (although I remember seeing the bill for lots of orientation events) if they spend $350K it's a great investment. I've never seen anything like the bonding the first year trips and orientation fostered. That will serve the college well in so many ways from having a happy student body to alumni donations to the type of love for the school that makes successful alum pick up the phone when a student calls for help.

The 350k is not for the freshman trips. Just the orientation week. They give away ridiculous amounts of free stuff, one night has a lobster dinner... and just overall tons of free food.

Most of the bonding I made with friends came from lazing around and hanging out with my friends on the Green.

The lobster dinner was on the bill Fall term as were many of the other extras. Ask your parents!`

Yes, the charge for the lobster dinner was $35 (a couple of years ago- probably more now)

Lol. Well there goes that thread.
