Good Online College?

OK, so, this fall, I’m taking online courses since I can’t drive, and I was wondering if there were any good online colleges. I’d like to do something in computer programming, or maybe be a writer. Help would be much appreciated.

VGADDICT02, stick with well known public universities that are not for profit that have online or distance learning degree programs. Take a look at Embanet’s client list, they have schools like Boston University, Stetson, and Northeastern University in Boston with online degree programs. These are highly ranked universities!

I’m at Penn State World Campus, entering my final term for a 33-credit masters degree. PSU has a great platform and I would definitely recommend it.

As 2bnoir says, make sure you stick with a well-known university. I’m partial to PSU, but Northwestern, Texas A&M and several other schools also seem to also have great programs. The downside is that these “well-known” schools are not inexpensive, though they will work with you on financial aid, student loans, etc. Again, If you’re going to spend the time and money to earn a degree, MAKE SURE it is from a credible school.

In my experience as hiring manager AND an employee, there is little difference in credential value between most online degrees and in-person degrees, provided they are from the same school (i.e. MA from Penn State World Campus vs. MA from Penn State), or caliber of schools (i.e. Penn State World Campus vs. Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies). This is not the case between, say, Penn State and Walden.

Good luck!

If you are thinking of taking online courses, make sure you check for accreditation of the schools offering them. It is very important for any school offering online classes to have valid accreditation. I would also suggest that you look for brick and mortar schools that offer online classes. That way, you are assured of the quality of curriculum. Personally, I would recommend the [Computer</a> Science degree at Stevens-Henager College](<a href=“http://www.stevenshenager.edu/information-technology/bachelors]Computer”>http://www.stevenshenager.edu/information-technology/bachelors). This degree is offered with a programming emphasis which should meet your requirements nicely.

State University of New York has SLN-Network has extensive list of community colleges offering good IT related Computer Information Systems courses. Also, the Michigan County Online Learning Initiative has list of community colleges with online courses…

Informative thread. thanks for sharing

Thanks for sharing the information!!

Nice thread

Thanx for the information. I think it will be useful for me too!

There are more online colleges than ever before. It’s hard to deny how easy it is to get a degree when you don’t have to drive to a campus three times a week and take classes at a specific time each and every day.

What people said earlier is exactly right. Find a college that has a physical location that also offers online degrees. My favorite is Columbia College. It’s home campus is in Columbia, Missouri and has been around for more than 160 years, but it also has 35 Nationwide Campuses to go along with a robust Online Campus.
