Good polisci vs Great IR program

In the past several months, I’ve been going back and forth whether I should pursue undergraduate study in IR (which is what I’ve always wanted to do, eventually continuing the study on graduate level), or Political Science (which is still very interesting to me, and people say it’s a better choice for undergrad, as it is a general theme that IR falls into and it doesn’t bind me to IR grad the way that IR undergrad does).

After touring AU and GWU, I’ve come to see that specializing in IR undergrad seems to yield its own perks through internships, due to the proximity to DC area, as well as AUs especially high regards for SIS programs.

Would it say it’s worth getting straight into somewhat-more prestigious IR schools and continuing on to grad with internships and opportunities that go with it, or to go with similarly good polisci major and pursue IR later on in life?
