Since Davis has both majors, this might be an issue that more people are experiencing. Basically I read here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/other-college-majors/902677-political-science-vs-international-relations.html that it would be a better option to take polisci because it provides a broader and more valuable set of marketable skills. But I know IR is more focused, which is valuable to employers too.

What’s your take on this ags?

also, would it be redundant to double major in both?

You can take classes from either discipline. I’m a poly sci major and while there is some overlap between IR and PS, I’m honestly more interested in domestic policies than international ones. I suppose you should go with whichever you’re more interested in - the IR major is an up and coming program at Davis, but it has been met with great success. The poly sci major is more old guard.

Go with your gut.

Darkstorn,

what sort of classes are you taking/what is your schedule? I am an incoming poly sci major but I am considering Economics instead.

I’m taking a lot of the contemporary political science classes, in addition to to Political Psychology and a couple ‘politics in media’ courses. Oh, and the Marxism class looks good.

I was also thinking of a minor in economics, if only to take Gregory Clark’s class (he’s one of the top economists in the field, if you haven’t heard - and A Farewell to Alms is a bestseller).
