Good schedule for Engineer interested in Ross

Just want some input as to what a good schedule - mostly manageability wise, and a little looks wise - would be for an incoming Engineer interested in applying to Ross.

Some background : I'll be heading in with 5's for BC, Stats, and Physics B (Which doesn't get me engineering credit ), and I have no programming experience.

Tentatively, I was thinking of doing the following schedule:

1st Sem :

Engin 101
Chem 125/130
Math 215/285

2nd Sem :

Engin 100
Phys 140
English 125
Econ 101

Just want some input ; any suggestions are welcome.

Well, as an engineer, I would take Math 216/286 the second semester not English 125. Take 285 if you can get a guy named Uribe, he’s awesome. Calc 3 honors isn’t that bad. Calc 4 honors is much worse and you could end up with a Chinese guy that harldy speaks english.

Your schedule is really close to what I took. I came in with more credit though so you might want to add a SS or HU your first semester. But then again you are an engineer applying to Ross later so I don’t really know what you should do

He has to take a first year writing class for Ross…

You should move Econ101 to your 1st semester schedule and then add DiffEq to your 2nd semester. Your first semester you only have 13 credits.

bump 10char

another bump. also, anyone know what engr 110 is like.

a couple of my friends took engr 110 this past year, and they said it was a waste of time. i wouldn’t take it, especially if you’re interested in going to ross anyways – what’s the point?

Don’t take it. Friends said it was a huge mistake.

Why would you do engineering if you’re planning on going to ross? All the science you learn will be pointless as it won’t ever be used again. Unless of course you’re naturally a science person and know you’ll do well.

btw is it common for new math sections to open; right now 285 has wait-lists for 3.

Well some spots are usually held open for freshman, but idk if they are in 285.

Try to get prof. Uribe, he’s awesome

285 looks like it has a waitlist because you need permission from the math department to take it. You can get this straightened out at orientation.

I didn’t like Uribe that much…haha

how doable is 17 credits first sem. if i were to add a hum/ss like econ

bump

Also, as a note, I’m not sure if i want to do engineering or not (which is why I’m wondering about engr 110). It’s just really annoying that I have to take a stupid first year writing / english 125 even if I want to apply to Ross.

btw, how’s urop. is it worth taking to for 2 credits.

17 credits is doable – things like this largely depend on how smart you are and how hard you’re going to work.

I have not heard anything good about Engr 110.

There are many threads about UROP on this forum, so you should do a search to find more elaborate responses.

btw, anyone care to enlighten me about 215 v 285 ; I looked at previous threads, but it was not always consistent : some ppl say that 285 has a nicer curve, while others said it was a straight scale / same as 215 if not worse ; some said 285 is way more work, but easier to get an A. Anyone have any recent experiences.

285 had a nice curve, and it wasn’t that hard. I did take Calc 3 in High School and, thanks to a lot of stu[id rules, I couldn’t get credit for it. So, I already had experience.

We did a smaller number of things in 285 compared to my HS (the class was through Cleveland State) but in 285 we went more in depth. We were always behind 215 in concepts, but we went more into proofs and stuff than they did. The exams were pretty easy as well, because Uribe didn’t actually test us on theory.

Some of the HWs might take you awhile, because those ARE theory. It’s not just plug and chug, you need to think and find identities and stuff.

286 IS a lot of work and it IS a lot harder though. Much different than 285.

I have a few friends who took 285, and they all said it was easy.

Having looked over their homeworks and material, I would say that it’s not significantly different than 215.

I thought ENGR 100 would fulfill that requirement?

^^ no, it does not.

Dammit I enrolled for Engr 110 cus the peer advisors said it’s good…
