Good schools for someone who loves Literature?

I was for sure headed the pre-med way. Then I met my junior class english teacher. I am in love with Literature now and I think I will pursue it in college. Which colleges have great Lit programs?

LACs tend to have great literature-oriented English programs.

Vassar, Bard, and Skidmore come to mind. Haverford. Davidson. Or perhaps one of the Claremont schools.

Or, if you're willing to go a bit unconventional, you may like the Great Books curriculum at St. John's (they have two campuses; MD and NM).

others?????

moviefreak, I think you'd have to try hard to find a good college that *doesn't *have a good English literature program. It's one of the staples of a liberal arts education -- and I mean that in a general sense, in that you can find strong English departments at colleges and universities of all sizes and all types.

You'd be better off making your college list based on your personal preferences on size, location, environment, teaching style etc. PS, many a medical school student is a former English major or double major. You CAN have it all.

hamilton. middlebury. nyu. vassar. franklin and marshall. skidmore. kenyon. brown.

Some non-North East/East Coast options since everyone's mostly listed some great East Coast places:

Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas (GREAT place..I'd go here if it wasn't so small and close to home).

Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois

Carleton..somewhere in Minnesota

Earlham..somewhere in Indiana

Beloit..somewhere in Wisconsin

Maybe Sewanee (university of the south). I mention this one only because a lot of bigtime lit buffs from my high school look at. It might have nothing to do with their lit interests. I honestly don't know.

Is DePaul good? How are their science programs?

bumpers.....................
