Good senior year schedule or too much?

Online: Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, possibly Point-Set Topology
AP European History
AP Art History
AP English Literature
AP Physics C: Mechanics & Electricity & Magnetism
AP Spanish Literature
Geology Honors (with transferrable college credit)
Hellenistic Influence in Development of Christian Thought 1st semester / Advanced Topics in Computer Science 2nd semester

Note: The last two courses are not weighted, which means that they would lower my weighted GPA if I maintained straight A's in the other courses. Does this matter college-wise? I could drop the Computer Science course, and switch the religion course to another that does not show up in college GPA calculations, if you guys think that is beneficial. Which matters more: weighted GPA or rigor? Those last two courses will be as rigorous as Honors/AP courses.

Colleges will calculate your GPA based on 9th-11th Grade. Your weighted GPA will matter only for your class rank, which is all about personal satisfaction. BTW, class rank senior year is usually determined after the second semester of high school so it can’t affect admissions.

In 12th Grade you need to maintain rigor and not fail. Your grades can dip a little but if they lot from what you had before, then colleges can rescind your admissions.

Your schedule does seem excessivaly rigorous, but that also depends on which college you want to apply to. I would drop an AP class (from that list, it would be AP Art History), but the decision is yours.

If I were to drop, I’d drop European History. I don’t really care about class rank btw.

But I thought that the first semester of senior year does affect admissions, since admissions take place after 1st semester.

senior year can impact college admissions, but not excessively. Junior year is the most important! As long as you don’t utterly flop in senior year you should be fine. Colleges will get a mid-year report with your grades, but I beleieve that those grades don’t go into GPA calculations. The reason might be that some schools end their semester later (schools that start in Sept probably end the semester mid-late January) and colleges probably need a GPA beforehand (they start the process in early Jan). Thus, they will apply this practice even for sutdents who finish their semesters in early Jan (like me!)

I took AP Euro last year and enjoyed it (got a 5), and I’m taking Art History this year along with APUSH. I don’t think there’s any reason you should drop those classes because those credits will really help you out and the classes themselves can be quite interesting imo.

In addition, if you don’t think you’ll like AP Euro, then drop. If you find it interesting, take it. Your schedule is plenty rigorous wih or without it. I mean, look at your math classes. You’ve probably done Calc 1,2,3; Diff Eqs; and Linear Algebra to get there. That alone is extremely impressive.

Alright, thanks everyone. I am actually going to be a junior next year and this was just a prospective schedule. If I do not get the grades I desire this year (Straight A’s) then I will definitely not take such a hard courseload in senior year.

@PunjabX… I’m not really a history person, but Art History sounds like a different type of history. I did enjoy World History but I don’t like modern history as much. I still would like to take AP european, it’s just that it’s the lowest priority course to drop for me at the moment.

I am more math and science oriented as well but history comes easy to me, although it is a lot of memorizing. Just work hard and you’ll be fine.

@PunjabX, I never said I was going to drop it, but it’s the first on the list do I decide to drop. Dropping any math/science is out of the question, I won’t consider it. I’d like to take Computer Science as well, since I love that too. If I drop English I’ll still have to take another english course, so I might as well take AP Lit, same with Religion. ARt history sounds cool. The only other one I’d consider dropping would be AP Spanish Lit. That all depends on how I do in Spanish this year.

If you feel like you can handle the schedule it will be fine.

Wow Real Analysis. x.x
