Hello! I am a soprano looking for some great undergrad programs for a Vocal Performance major.

I have mostly been looking into: Ithaca College, Concordia College, and Boston University.

However, I also know that: St. Olaf, Rice, Millikin, Cornell, and NYU are also great. But I haven't heard many opinions about them yet. Are they more for graduate studies? Worth the money?

I would love to hear ANY AND ALL opinions about all of these schools!! Any others I should be looking at? I'm a junior in high school finally starting my search!!

Also, I know that ultimately I would need to choose a school based on the voice teacher. Any recommendations? A female voice teacher with amazing connections?

THANK YOU!!!

I had thought Cornell didn’t have any performance majors for undergrad or grad school. Am I mistaken?

I’m not a vocalist, so my only comment is that those programs seem to be pretty different not only in competitiveness of admission but in musical scope and focus. As mentioned, I’m pretty sure Cornell is an academic music department, for instance, and Rice is one of the most competitive undergrad music admits in the world. The rest lie at various places in between, but you might want look at that. I don’t know if it’s that you’re not sure what kind of music program you’re looking for, be it a BA or a supercompetitive, pre-professional performance environment, or if you just need to find schools that fit the musical goals you already have set for yourself. Good luck!
