Hi there,

I'm a college sophomore majoring in Writing and Rhetoric, and I'm exploring my graduate school options. I'm grappling with potentially going the law school route, but I'm not entirely sure. What I am sure of, however, is that I love the field of Writing and Rhetoric (or at least what I know it to be so far in my education). I love what it stands for, what we study, what we do, who we are; I love the "radically democratic" aspect of it, as described by Lunsford. I love reading through all the discussions in scholarly journals, and I admire all of the work that everyone has done. I'd say that it even inspires me.

I've done some research, and I've found a few programs that have caught my eye:

Master of Arts in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse at Depaul University

Master of Arts in Writing and Rhetoric at James Madison University

Master of Arts in Critical Studies in Literacy and Pedagogy at Michigan State University

Does anyone have any knowledge of these programs or of any other good ones? It's hard to find quality programs since the field itself isn't fully established or universal, and I know that there's also the discrepancy of there not being one true name for the field. I live in Michigan, but I'm willing to relocate for a solid program (and even venture into Ontario if they have anything worthwhile. I think I read somewhere that the University of Waterloo has a nice program).

I'm not yet sure where I want to go with this (I've also been thinking about following up with a PhD and going into academia myself), and I currently work at my university's writing center and absolutely love it. I definitely don't think I want to go the technical route, though. I'm very much in love with the theoretical and also the pedagogical as it relates to the writing center.

Thanks for reading, and thank you if you can give me some advice on programs/tracks!
