Google CSSI 2016 Discussion

Hey guys, I figured I would go ahead and start a new thread for this since I hadn’t seen one for this summer. Did anyone else here apply for CSSI and/or the Generation Google Scholarship? Can’t wait to hear back!

I applied to these. Can anyone from 2015 say when notifications came out?

I applied to both CSSI and the Scholarship. To be honest, I would much rather get rejected than get in and flop the interview

I also applied! Any idea when they email us about interviews?

@annaboli They didnt do interviews last year so we might not have them

Any word on this? Last year around this time notifications were sent out right?

Google will notify applicants in May. I applied, and I’m really hoping to get in

Would they care about our gpas if we showed that we already got into a good college?

To be honest, I’m not sure. But I know they want people who are solid from a technical point of view. I, for one think when it comes to software, grades in school are worthless.

Hey! I’m curious when they select candidates for an interview. End of April?

They didn’t interview last year, and they didn’t mention any interview this year. I don’t think they are gonna do an interview this year. They’ll notify applicants in May.

Hey guys, I’m really nervous about getting in. Do they really consider SAT Scores because I got 1720 and it seems like most people that get in are in the 2000’s.

This is my first time going in, but while I’m sure sure SAT scores matter to some extent, they pay more attention to the responses to the 6 short answer questions (hopefully you took your time to answer these very well). If you have an extremely high score, yet did a poor job answering those questions, your chances would be very slim. You resume too, should have had some good stuff on it. BTW, I got 1750 on the SAT, so you’re not alone.

Do they even check your scores?

You report your score in the general application (or the CSSI Application, idk, i forgot; but either way, if you applied for CSSI then you did both). I don’t know if they actually take it upon themselves to check your scores at College Board and make sure you didn’t lie. There’s no such mention, and something tells me they don’t.

I believe they are notifying people already. I got a call today around 4:30 and i got selected as a recipient! I am attending the Cambridge session and no there are no interviews.

Wow, that’s awesome @Akatsuki034 . I wish I was in your place, lol. If you do not mind sharing, could you please tell me what your SAT/ACT scores were like (you can PM me if you don’t wanna post here)?

@BirdBolt my qualifications were decent. I am Captain if Varsity Soccer+Cross Country, NHS president, JROTC staff member, JROTC drill team, JROTC fitness team captain. I have 4.38 GPA and am ranked #1 out of my class. However my scores werent all that great: 1690. I personally think it was my essays, i took my time on them to make sure they were good enough for them to over look my low scores.

@Akatsuki034 wow, that’s a lot of extracurricular stuff; coupled with your GPA, it is easy/reasonable to overlook your SAT score. Nice! Personally, I think GPA reflects a student more than SAT?ACT score

@Akatsuki034 Did you also receive an email confirming you were in / did the status of your application change on the website?
