Google CSSI

I was contacted by them for a technical interview. Anybody else here? Is there anyone who went in the past who can shed some light? I can't seem to find much discussion on this summer program.

I emailed for some more info and while it's a technical interview, they won't ask you any technical problems to solve. They want to gauge your skill level.

We will be notified of their decision by May 11th. Woo!

I didn't have that much of a computer science background and my essays were hastily written (I went back and found so many thing I would've changed) but it seems to have been enough to get a technical interview.

Does anyone know what it means to have gotten this interview? Are the selected interviewees almost there? Or is it just for another round of cuts?

Congrats! Iā€™m just curious, what were your stats? I thought I had a good shot because I had a USAPHO and AIME qualification, but I got rejected. I donā€™t know if itā€™s because Iā€™m not a minority or if Iā€™m just not qualified.

Hey! I was selected for an interview this year, too, and I actually got done with it just a little while ago. It was almost completely technical questionsā€¦ I know that the interview is the last step of the application process and once youā€™re done with that its time to wait for the Google Gods to choose their 60 special students.
I was told Iā€™d know by May 14thā€¦ Is yours different? Did you select one specific CSSI camp that you are available to attend?
Best of luck! The interview really got me thinking.

Hey I also just completed the interview. Good luck to you guys! I wonder how many were selected for interviewsā€¦

@geometrizer I donā€™t really know how they selected the interviewees but Iā€™m a Canadian-Chinese female from Canada. I got 2240 on my SAT reasoning test. My average is around 93-94%. I havenā€™t gotten AIME qualifications though I am always really close. I donā€™t think I can be considered a minority haha

Maybe itā€™s because I wrote about how females should be more empowered in the engineering/math fields. As I said before, I donā€™t have much computing/programming experience besides teaching myself HTML/a bit of CSS.

I thought it was the 11th because I had emailed to ask when we were being notified and the reply said the 11th. But when I got my interview time, it said the 14th. Either way, weā€™ll know by Monday!

My interview lasted almost an hour! I think only like 10-15 minutes of that was actually technical questions. My interviewer asked me about my extracurriculars and the summer camps Iā€™ve attended. We also discussed some lab work Iā€™ve done as well as the computational linguistics major at Penn, which he urged me to check out.

OMG I just realized I got a phone call from them today in the afternoon! I got in!!! :DD except in the voicemail she didnā€™t say which session but Iā€™m crossing my fingers itā€™s for the one in California!

Congratulations! :D

I think Iā€™m going to the one in California too!

^haha you think? :stuck_out_tongue: I put down ā€œboth sessionsā€ but in the extra comments box I wrote that I would LOVE to go to California even though I can attend both.

Iā€™m going to Summer Institute at Mudd, which overlaps with the second session. The lady said there should be room in the Cali session. Did you fill that out on the application or was there a separate form?

^I filled that out on the interview form they sent us for our interview availability. It was the last question.

Ohā€¦I got invited through another scholarship. But the email is out! Are you going to Cali? :D

^Argh I got the second session. It has itā€™s perks being, studying and living on MIT campus (Iā€™m assuming) and I can go to my senior Prom! But they said that if you want to switch to the second session you can email and theyā€™ll try to accommodate you. Sooo Iā€™ll see what happens. Either way, Iā€™ll be happy. :)

Hey guys!

I am applying for the Generation Google scholarship and through that, hopefully, I will also get an interview for the Google CSSI or I will apply to Google CSSI directly.

Do you have any advice for the essays?
For the interview, how do you think I should prepare? What kind of questions did they ask you?
How can I stand out as a strong applicant?

Hey, I assume that you are a 2012 applicant for Google CSSI. I am currently a high school senior and wanted to get a head start on the essays/supplement questions required by the application. Do you think you can help me out if you still have the questions on your record? And any tips for the interview process? I really appreciate it. Thank you.

I was wondering if all applicants receive an interview during the admission process.
Thank You

I just completed my application for CSSI 2013! I am excited and waiting for the next step in the process. I found this forum and was surprised to know that thereā€™s actually going to be an interview, I am scared a bit now. It would be so wonderful if you could please tell me what kind of ā€˜technicalā€™ questions you were asked in the interview??
Thanks :D

Apparently only select students get an interview. In 2011, there were 70 students who got an interview out of all of those who applied. Now Iā€™m just hoping that I am selected for one haha :-)

I applied last weekā€¦ Damn only 60 students?? They got some money I feel like they could get more students if they triedā€¦

Either way Best of Luck to everyone 0.0

Just got a reply from Ms. Cohen, who has stated that the interviews will be focused more on ā€œproblem-solving and STEM aptitude.ā€ Theyā€™ll be selecting the subset of applicants for interview later this month. Good luck everybody!
