Hi, When I google search my name. The first thing that pop outs is someone playing a game call league of legends with the same in game name as my name. And my name is not that common since I am Chinese. Would that have a negative impact on me if the colleges google me ?
What else pops out? I’m sure it won’t have any negative impact, but it is always better to be proactive and build your online presence intentionally. For example, you could give yourself a strong profile on LinkedIn, and then that would show up when people search your name.
Other things that pops up is just like facebook search and linkedlIn search results of the name, which is not me .
Surely colleges are smart enough to realize that there’s multiple people out there with the same name.
Surely colleges are also not bored enough to Google all their students, and, if they did, would not assume some similar LoL username is the applicant, and, if they did, wouldn’t hold a gaming hobby against an applicant.
Ok, I dont know why there even would be someone guy name their game name after me and my name is pretty rare.

There will be no negative impact. I doubt any colleges google search their students and if they do, they are not dumb enough to think the first person to pop up is the applicant. And also, I don’t think having gaming as a hobby is a negative aspect.
