Hi,

This is probably a really stupid question but I thought that the FAFSA worksheets are just there to guide you through the process. You do not need to send them in because they're just guides.

However, I'm previewing my FAFSA and there are some questions, like "do you receive free lunch", "do your parents receive free lunch", that are left as blanks. I went over my application again and again but couldn't find the questions.

Please help, thanks

Do you receive free or reduced lunch? If not, don’t worry about it. These questions are used for very low income FAFSA filers who may qualify for the simplified needs test. If your income is above a certain amount you don’t qualify for that anyway.

Yep - there is a drop down box for each of those questions where you indicate if you received the assistance.

Hi -
Thanks for your responses.
Thumper: I am eligible for free/reduced price lunch but I did not apply for that service this year as I usually bring my own. Can I file a correction form and fill in these answers again?

The question is one of the ways to determine your eligibility for two special calculations in the EFC formula, automatic 0 EFC and simplified needs test (where )assets are ignored). They each have income limits - AGI of <$30k for auto 0 and AGI<$50k for simplified needs test. If you meet the income limits and your prents are eligible to file a 1040a or 1040ez (or are not required to file) then you already qualify for them depending on which income limit you meet. If they are not eligible via the tax return type then you should go ahead and correct FAFSA. (though I think you have to have actually received the means tested benefit to qualify, not just be eligible for it).
