Gordon College Chemistry

Hi, everyone. If any of you attend, have attended, or know anyone from Gordon College who studied Chemistry there, how do you feel about their program? Do you think they prepared you well for the career you wanted? What did you expect and what did you receive?

Thank you so much for taking time to read&answer

You may want to look into whether they offer an American Chemical Society certified degree:

https://webapplications.acs.org/Applications/CPTASL/app_list_results.cfm

By the above link, they don’t appear to, but you could check directly with Gordon for further information.

Thank you

I found that they have an ACS club that is student-run, but I am pretty sure that is different.

I did look also and came to same tentative conclusion.

ACS certification pertains to depth and breadth of coursework. An absence of ACS certification by itself would not necessarily mean relative shortcomings with respect to this, but, reasonably interpreted, it might.

@AdoreChemistry, there are lots of accredited programs - best to try to pick one of them.

Interestingly, one of Gordon’s professors focuses his research on green chemistry, which seems fairly rare.

It is certainly possible to get a fine education in science from a small program at a liberal arts college. However, Gordon’s program seems tiny even by LAC standards: according to College Navigator, Gordon conferred a total of 3 chemistry degrees in 2015-16. It might be a good idea to ask some hard questions about the number of faculty, course options, and resources that are available to chemistry students in this situation.
