Gordon Gee rips ND, Catholics

“The president of Ohio State University said Notre Dame was never invited to join the Big Ten because the university´s priests are not good partners, joking that ‘those damn Catholics’ can´t be trusted, according to a recording of a meeting he attended late last year.” …

The incident happened in December; just reported now.

[Gordon Gee, Ohio State president, takes shots at Notre Dame and Catholics - ESPN](http://espn.go.com/college-football/story//id/9325510/gordon-gee-ohio-state-president-takes-shots-notre-dame-catholics)

We loved him when he was at Vanderbilt. He announced he was leaving a year after oldest graduated and while youngest was still there and both kids were disappointed to see him go. He had lots of interaction with the students throughout the year to keep his finger on the pulse. That said, his recent snarky remarks about ND and about the SEC weren’t nice.

What an embarrassment to OSU. You’d think a squatty little bow-tied Mormon would have better sense than to mock another religion.

If ND wanted to join the Big Ten. It would join the Big Ten. But why would it take a pay cut and face stiffer competition? Joining the Big 10 would be great for the conference but lousy for ND. If it was invited the priests likely hung up the phone laughing.

Gordon Gee could possibly lose his job if he does this again.

http://www.thelantern.com/campus/bot-chairman-says-ohio-state-president-gee-could-face-dismissal-if-offensive-comments-continue-1.3045204#.Uaps_ZxTDms

It’s probably too much to hope for, though. The idiots in Columbus love him too much. They even genuflect when anyone mentions his name (no offense to Catholicism intended there).

I think this is blown out of proportion, it was a joke, at a meeting, not a national press conference. He apologized, let it be.

He’s done this three times in as many years. He’s proven time and time again that he can’t conduct himself properly in public and that he holds bigoted views.

As an Ohio taxpayer, I resent having to fund the third-highest paid university president in the nation when he is, by all standards, an extremely unprofessional person.

How did I know, before even clicking on this thread, that you would be all over it with almost half the entire posts.

You should be thankful for his latest verbal gaffe, for it’s given your sad little obsession with and bitterness towards Ohio State a reason to come out and play. Gee will be dealt with by people who actually have Ohio State’s best interests at heart, not some lonely bitter kid who flunked/transferred out.

Lol, Lenny, you sound a bit bitter.

I’m an Ohio taxpayer and therefore have a stake. I would like to see Ohio State improve itself.

You’re right that I transferred out, though. I got my degree from a top-tier school, scholarships and all. But for Ohio State!

Care to inform us of this “top-tier” school? You never post about it…just your bitterness towards Ohio State…because there’s only three schools in Ohio (Case, Oberlin and Kenyon) that most people would consider at a higher tier than Ohio State.

nah, not really. I guess I’ll leave you frustrated and guessing about where I got my education.

However, my education did teach me that bigotry is never appropriate, and not something to simply excuse. Gee is doing a lousy job as president; he represents the university poorly and has once again embarrassed everyone. I’d have to side-eye anyone who doesn’t agree.

@malia56

I am not a huge fan of Gee, but if you’re going to pull the “I’m a taxpayer too” card, keep in mind how many billions of dollars he has brought into Ohio State (and therefore, the state of Ohio) by means of his fundraising; he is paid that much for a reason

I graduated from ND and I’m Catholic. I’m not offended.

If we didn’t always have a priest as president at ND, I’d be happy to have Gee run the school.

Sad day for Buckeyes.

While I was not thrilled with the comments, he was a great leader and will be missed. Hopefully, the people he hired will be able to continue his vision.

I agree that this was blown wayyyyy out of proportion. It was a joke. Get over it. Thats the problem with people nowadays. No one knows how to have fun anymore. Will miss President Gee!

Go Bucks!! :)

Reviving this thread - E. Gordon Gee was named full-term president of WVU today. What a reflection on WV’s so-called flagship university. And no, it wasn’t blown out of proportion. Substitute “those damn Jews” or “those damn Blacks” for “those damn Catholics” and he would been crucified. But since it’s Catholics that he “joked” about, that OK.
